On the evening of December 6, at the Bahrain World Exhibition Center, the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2025 ceremony took place solemnly with the participation of tourism industry representatives from more than 100 countries and territories.
At the event, WTA announced and awarded the winning trophy for the category of UNESCO Global Geopark Dong Van Karst Plateau, Tuyen Quang , Vietnam - World's Leading Cultural Destination 2025.
This is the first time Tuyen Quang has had a destination honored in a group of global cultural awards, marking an important step forward for provincial tourism on the regional and world map.

The delegation of Tuyen Quang province led by Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Phan Huy Ngoc directly attended and received the title. The presence of the provincial leaders on the international stage shows great attention to foreign affairs, and at the same time affirms the commitment to making tourism an important economic sector in the local development strategy. Accompanying the delegation were representatives of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, leaders of the Department of Culture - Sports and Tourism, the Management Board of the Geopark and local authorities, demonstrating the spirit of consensus in preserving and promoting heritage values.
Speaking at the event, the provincial leader emphasized that the title is “the pride of Tuyen Quang and the world’s recognition of the province’s efforts to preserve heritage.” This is considered a great source of motivation for Tuyen Quang to continue its goal of making tourism a key economic sector in the coming time.
Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark was recognized by UNESCO in 2010, possessing an outstanding value system crystallized from three pillars: geology, culture and community life.
This geological region preserves more than 550 million years of Earth history, once the remnants of an ancient ocean and contains a fossil archive spanning the Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras. Unique karst systems, caves, paleontological sites and layers of sediments laid down over hundreds of millions of years create a rare “open-air geological museum”.

Not only rich in geological values, Dong Van is a unique cultural space of 17 ethnic groups with a multi-layered cultural value system, from traditional stone architecture, rituals, languages, indigenous knowledge to handicrafts. Nature and people here blend and create each other through many generations, forming a unique cultural ecosystem with strong identity. It is this originality and uniqueness that creates a different attraction, making it the title of the World's Leading Cultural Destination in 2025.
World Travel Awards, established in 1993, is considered one of the most prestigious recognition systems in the global tourism industry. Over the past three decades, WTA has become a measure of service quality and attractiveness of the world's leading destinations. The fact that Dong Van Stone Plateau was named in 2025 continues to affirm its position as a destination that converges natural, cultural and human values, while contributing to the image of a friendly and richly-identified Vietnam in the international arena.
