After defeating New Zealand in the opening match, quickly winning a ticket to the quarterfinals of the AVC Nations Cup 2025 , the Vietnamese men's volleyball team was in a very comfortable mood when entering the match for the top spot in the group with Korea.
In the world rankings, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team is ranked 53rd, while South Korea is ranked 25th and 5th in Asia. The two teams met in the 3rd place match of the 2023 AVC Challenge Cup (the predecessor of the AVC Nations Cup). In that match, the Korean team won 3-1.

Returning to the match, the Vietnamese boys surprised everyone by continuously scoring points, leading 8/4 in set 1. After that, the Korean men's volleyball team took the lead 19/16. At the end of set 1, the Vietnamese athletes lost many points due to poor serving and blocking, and had to accept defeat 22/25.
In set 2, the Korean men's volleyball team continued to take advantage of their height and physical strength. However, Ngoc Thuan and his teammates had a really hard-fought set. Unfortunately, after leading 15/14, coach Dinh Tien's team regrettably lost 23/25.
In set 3, the decline in physical strength caused the Vietnamese men's volleyball team to lose quickly 12/25, ultimately losing 0-3. With this result, Korea ranked first in Group D, Vietnam ranked second. In the quarterfinals, coach Tran Dinh Tien and his team met Qatar.
