On the evening of August 16, U23 Australia showed a superior and completely different performance from the group stage when they won 2-1 against the Vietnamese women's team.
In the 6th minute, Aideen Keane headed the ball close to the goal to open the score for U23 Australia despite Mai Duc Chung and his team having a better start. In the 17th minute, Cicco fired a dangerous long-range shot into the top corner, increasing the gap to 2-0 despite goalkeeper Kim Thanh flying to block it.
Undeterred, the Vietnamese women's team continued to play with determination. Huynh Nhu created two notable opportunities when she broke through to the right edge of the penalty area but was unable to beat the opposing goalkeeper, and another shot was blocked by an Australian defender in the 21st minute.
The clearest chance came in the 42nd minute when Thu Thao returned the ball, but Thanh Nha's rebound shot went over the bar.
Vietnam women's team started well but let the opponent open the score
Despite creating many attacks, the Vietnamese women's team still could not materialize their efforts with goals. The first half ended with the home team only having one shot on target, temporarily accepting a 0-2 lead going into the break.
Entering the second half, coach Mai Duc Chung quickly made adjustments, focusing on the attack.
After many deadlocks and opportunities from Nguyen Thi Van and Van Su, coach Mai Duc Chung sent Hai Yen onto the field to increase strength from minute 84.
It wasn’t until the 88th minute that Bich Thuy shone, narrowing the score to 1-2, lighting up hope for the fans on the field. From a situation of good ball control, she entered the penalty area from the right wing, powerfully finishing off the Australian goalkeeper when the ball bounced off her hand and into the net.

After that, the Australian goal was constantly in trouble but the efforts of Huynh Nhu and Bich Thuy were all unsuccessful and the home team accepted a 1-2 defeat.
This result puts U23 Australia against the Myanmar women's team in the final at 7:30 p.m. on August 19.
Meanwhile, Mai Duc Chung and his team will meet Thailand in the third place match on the same day.
