Promoting biomedical technology cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba

On the morning of June 28, in Da Lat City, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee coordinated with the Green Economy Institute to organize the Vietnam - Cuba Biomedical Technology Cooperation Workshop to concretize and implement Resolution No. 57-NQ TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation.

The workshop directly connects management agencies, experts, scientists , and leading biomedical science and technology organizations of Vietnam and Cuba to propose, discuss cooperation content and mechanisms, and promote technology transfer by Cuban scientists such as cancer treatment, stroke, diabetes, and public health care.

At the workshop, experts and managers discussed, suggested and proposed a number of breakthrough policies and mechanisms, especially a legal framework for controlled testing for the transfer, research, development and commercialization of biotechnology and biomedicine in Lam Dong .

Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Tran Hong Thai said that with advantages in climate, education and healthcare infrastructure, natural medicinal resources and strategic location in the Southern economic region, Lam Dong has all the conditions to develop into a high-tech biomedical center.

At the workshop, Comrade Tran Luu Quang, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Committee, said that advanced biomedical technology has been identified as one of 11 strategic technology groups of Vietnam. These are the areas that Vietnam has identified as needing to focus on prioritizing investment attraction, human resource development and infrastructure to contribute to solving the country's major problems, promoting rapid and sustainable development.

“Cuba has become a successful model of innovation in the field of advanced biomedical technology, successfully building a complete biotechnology ecosystem of international stature with the ability to be self-sufficient from research, development to production and commercialization. This is proof that we can achieve breakthroughs in high-tech development through focused investment with the right and systematic strategic orientation,” emphasized Mr. Tran Luu Quang.

Delegates witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements between representatives of Vietnamese and Cuban organizations at the workshop.

The Green Economy Institute and Labiofam Group (Cuba) have signed a comprehensive cooperation framework agreement on joint research, development, production and trade of agricultural biotechnology and natural medicine products and research projects to serve people's health care and sustainable agricultural development.
