"The United States is fully confident that America's success will be Vietnam's success and Vietnam's success will be America's success," US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper said on December 2 at the workshop "Vietnam - US: Looking back on 10 years of Comprehensive Partnership and implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace , Cooperation and Sustainable Development".
This event was jointly organized by the US Embassy in Vietnam and the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), with the participation of officials, former senior officials, experts, and representatives of organizations from the two countries.
Ambassador Knapper recalled important milestones in the Vietnam-US relationship and assessed that US President Joe Biden's visit to Vietnam at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in September was an important milestone in the cooperative relationship between the two countries.
During this visit, the two sides issued a Joint Statement on upgrading Vietnam-US relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development.
This is a very vivid document, orienting the development of relations between the two countries in the coming time, especially in promoting economic cooperation, trade, investment, education, people-to-people exchange, digital transformation, semiconductor industry development, etc.
Mr. Knapper said that this is the result of many years of effort by both countries, and it aims at the prosperity and development of Vietnam and the US. He believes that in the future, the two countries will strive to strengthen cooperation worthy of the stature of the new relationship.
The US diplomat affirmed that with ambitious goals of achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and becoming a developed country by 2045, Vietnam can completely trust in support from Washington.
He affirmed that the US fully respects Vietnam's political system, territorial integrity and sovereignty. The US is committed to maintaining its commitment to cooperation with Vietnam and is proud to be a partner and friend of Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Phan Anh Son, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, reviewed some achievements in the relationship between the two countries.
After nearly 30 years of normalizing relations, establishing diplomatic relations and 10 years of establishing a Comprehensive Partnership, the two countries have witnessed many important steps forward in various fields.
In terms of politics and diplomacy, many high-level visits have been made, each marking new steps forward, opening up new stages of cooperation in the relationship between the two countries.
In terms of economy and trade, bilateral trade turnover in 2022 will reach 123 billion USD (270 times higher than in 1995) and over 61 billion USD in the first 7 months of 2023.
Regarding security and defense cooperation, the two countries continued to implement the Security - Defense Dialogue at the Deputy Ministerial level and achieved many positive results in the field of overcoming war consequences, resolving non-traditional security issues, ensuring maritime and aviation security and safety in the East Sea, etc.
Regarding cultural exchange and education and training cooperation, Vietnam and the US have implemented more than 10 educational, training and cultural exchange programs. The number of Vietnamese students studying in the US has grown dramatically, from 800 Vietnamese students in the US (in 1995) to nearly 30,000 (in 2023).
Regarding health cooperation, over the past 10 years, the US has provided Vietnam with assistance worth more than 1.8 billion USD and many cooperation activities in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic.
On regional and global issues, the two countries coordinate increasingly closely at international and regional forums as well as in handling many other global issues.
People-to-people diplomacy activities between the two countries have met new requirements with many improvements in content and methods of operation, contributing to creating a favorable, broad and solid social foundation for the relationship between the two states to continue to develop.
"Those achievements are the result of the consistent efforts of both countries in putting the past behind them, overcoming differences, promoting similarities, and looking towards the future," Mr. Phan Anh Son emphasized.
The workshop is an opportunity for both sides to review bilateral relations in the past; limitations and difficulties as well as lessons learned; achievements and factors and pillars promoting the relationship between the two countries.
Experts and officials also gave their opinions on possible cooperation contents to bring the Vietnam-US partnership to a new height, realize the people's aspirations for a bright and dynamic future, and contribute to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in this important region as well as around the world.
