Promote cooperation in health, education, agriculture and culture with Cuba

On the morning of November 27, Comrade Trinh Xuan Truong, Secretary of Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee, received and worked with the delegation of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Vietnam led by Mr. Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba in Vietnam, who came to visit, pay courtesy calls and discuss investment cooperation opportunities in the province.

In a friendly, open and respectful atmosphere, Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Secretary Trinh Xuan Truong expressed his pleasure to welcome Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes and the delegation. He emphasized that the traditional friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba had been cultivated by President Ho Chi Minh and Leader Fidel Castro, and had been continuously consolidated and developed by generations of leaders of the two countries. In particular, the State visit to Cuba by General Secretary To Lam and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation (September 2024) continued to open up strategic cooperation directions, creating an important foundation for localities of the two countries to strengthen connections. For Thai Nguyen, over the years, the province has always remembered, cherished and preserved the precious feelings between the two countries. On that basis, the Provincial Party Secretary hoped that there would be many opportunities for cooperation between Thai Nguyen province and Cuban localities in various fields based on the strengths and needs of both sides.

Providing general information about Thai Nguyen province after the merger of Thai Nguyen - Bac Kan , the Provincial Party Secretary said that the province has a more open development space, converging many potentials in industry, transportation, tourism, agriculture and education - training. The province has successfully organized the 1st Provincial Party Congress, term 2025 - 2030, setting the target of double-digit economic growth, by 2030 becoming a modern industrial province of the country. Thai Nguyen is also the third largest training center in Vietnam, with Thai Nguyen University playing a core role in international cooperation in education and research. Comrade Trinh Xuan Truong highly appreciated the potential for cooperation between Thai Nguyen and Cuba, especially in the fields that the province has promoted in previous years such as health, education, high-tech agriculture. In 2023, the provincial high-ranking delegation visited and worked in Cuba; In 2025, Thai Nguyen University will also have a working trip to the neighboring country. He believes that this visit of the Ambassador is an important opportunity for cooperation programs to soon go into depth, with specific and effective products.

The Provincial Party Secretary hopes that during his term in Vietnam, with the Ambassador's working experience, he will promote the cooperative relationship between Cuba and Thai Nguyen, soon bringing about concrete results.

Appreciating the warm welcome of the Provincial Party Secretary and leaders of Thai Nguyen province, Mr. Rogelio Polanco Fuentes expressed his joy when visiting Thai Nguyen for the first time, in the context that the two countries are looking forward to celebrating the 65th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cuba.

Appreciating the potential and strengths of Thai Nguyen province in various fields, the Ambassador suggested four areas of cooperation that the two sides would promote: health, education, agriculture and culture. In the immediate future, from the next school year, the Cuban Government will grant scholarships to Thai Nguyen University students to study medicine in Cuba.
The Ambassador said that currently, many Vietnamese enterprises have successfully invested in Cuba and hopes that more Thai Nguyen enterprises will learn about and invest in Cuba. Congratulating the success of the 1st Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Congress, term 2025 - 2030, the Ambassador believes that Thai Nguyen province will complete the important goals set out to join the whole country in entering the era of development.
