Promoting links between farmers, cooperatives and businesses in implementing the 1 million hectare rice project

(CT) - On May 13, in Can Tho City, the Department of Economic Cooperation and Rural Development under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in coordination with the School of Public Policy and Rural Development organized a workshop on "The role and solutions to attract and mobilize farmers, businesses and organizations to participate in the implementation of the Project on Sustainable Development of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta region by 2030 (Project on 1 million hectares of rice)".

The workshop was organized to create conditions for policy makers, state management agencies, units, enterprises, cooperatives, farmers and related parties to meet, connect information and discuss, propose solutions to strengthen links and cooperation to effectively implement the 1 million hectare rice project.

At the workshop, delegates were updated and provided with information on the implementation of the 1 million hectare rice project, the results of pilot models and solutions to promote linkages in rice consumption along the chain; disseminated and implemented State policies on encouraging the development of cooperation and linkages in production and consumption of products and provided guidance on linkages between farmers, cooperatives and enterprises in implementing the 1 million hectare rice project; shared experiences, introduced good models and practices in linkages between farmers, enterprises and cooperatives in rice production and consumption.

The workshop also spent a lot of time for delegates to discuss and propose solutions to promote links between farmers, businesses, cooperatives and relevant parties in implementing the 1 million hectare rice project.

The 1 million hectare rice project aims to reorganize production in order to form and sustainably develop high-quality rice specialized areas associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta on a large scale to increase rice farmers' income and the efficiency of the rice value chain. At the same time, it helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change, protect the ecological environment, contribute to ensuring national food security and effective export, and contribute to the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta and adaptation to climate change. The implementation of value chain linkage, with close linkage between farmers in cooperatives with enterprises and related parties, is an important solution to reorganize production, improve efficiency and effectively implement the goals set out in the 1 million hectare rice project.
