Promoting Vietnam-EU relations to develop more deeply and substantially

On the afternoon of June 20, at the Government headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang received Mr. Daniel Caspary, Head of the European Parliament Delegation in charge of relations with Southeast Asian countries and ASEAN, and his delegation who are visiting Vietnam.

At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang expressed his delight at the extensive and substantial developments in the Vietnam-EU bilateral relationship in recent times. Currently, the EU is one of Vietnam's leading trade and investment partners. Meanwhile, Vietnam is the EU's largest trade partner in the ASEAN bloc.

The Deputy Prime Minister hopes that the two sides will continue to cooperate closely, focusing on areas where the EU has advantages and following the current general trend to serve green development, sustainable development, and climate change response; thereby contributing to the common goal of promoting the Vietnam-EU Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation to develop more deeply and substantially; bringing practical benefits to the people and businesses of both sides. At the same time, actively contributing to maintaining peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region and the world .

The Deputy Prime Minister requested Mr. Daniel Caspary and the delegation to speak out in support of Vietnam removing the "IUU yellow card" in the seafood fishing process. This will bring great benefits to the lives of Vietnamese people who are being severely affected by the "IUU yellow card".

At the meeting, Mr. Daniel Caspary and the delegation acknowledged and highly appreciated the role and position of Vietnam in the region as well as in the world. The clearest evidence is the signing and entry into force of the EVFTA Free Trade Agreement and the EVIPA Investment Protection Agreement in the past two years, which are about to enter the implementation phase.

Vietnam is also considered a typical example of achieving outstanding results in poverty reduction; attracting foreign direct investment (FDI), infrastructure development... Vietnam also set a target of committing to zero net emissions by 2050.

Regarding the issue of removing the “IUU yellow card”, Mr. Daniel Caspary noted that this is an important issue for Vietnam; he expressed his hope that this content will soon have results in line with the expectations of both sides.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the East Sea issue and the Russia-Ukraine conflict...
