Promoting Vietnam-Slovakia relations to develop substantially, comprehensively and sustainably

On November 18, General Secretary To Lam received Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Slovakia Robert Kaliňák within the framework of his official visit to Vietnam.

General Secretary To Lam welcomed the visit of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Robert Kaliňák, emphasizing that this is an important and practical activity to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1950-2025), contributing to further deepening the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Slovakia.

General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Slovakia has always been a loyal and close friend of Vietnam; and thanked the Government and people of Slovakia for always supporting and uniting with the Vietnamese people over the past 75 years.

General Secretary To Lam highly appreciated the results of the talks between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Robert Kalinak and General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense; affirmed that defense cooperation between the two countries, implemented on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding on defense cooperation signed in 2015, has achieved many positive results, becoming one of the important pillars of bilateral relations.

General Secretary To Lam suggested that the two sides further promote cooperation in the fields of defense industry, military training, peacekeeping, etc.

On the basis of high political trust, General Secretary To Lam suggested that the two sides maintain the exchange of delegations at all levels; at the same time, enhance the effectiveness of existing consultation and cooperation mechanisms to promote the bilateral relationship to develop substantially, comprehensively and sustainably; at the same time, create favorable conditions for ministries, branches and businesses of the two countries to connect and expand cooperation, making economics and science and technology a pillar in the bilateral relationship, further promoting cooperation in culture, education, tourism and people-to-people exchange.

On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam conveyed his regards and invitation to Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico to soon pay an official visit to Vietnam.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Robert Kaliňák expressed his impression of Vietnam's great development achievements, making Vietnam an important country in Asia; emphasizing that Slovakia is proud to have always stood side by side with Vietnam over the past 75 years, affirming that Vietnam is one of Slovakia's leading important partners in the region.

The Government and people of Slovakia always wish to further deepen and improve the effectiveness of multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam, especially in the field of defense as well as other areas of common interest to both sides.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Robert Kaliňák completely agreed with General Secretary To Lam's opinion, affirming that he will actively coordinate with Slovakia's ministries, sectors and Vietnamese partners to develop Vietnam-Slovakia relations commensurate with their existing level and potential.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Robert Kaliňák stressed that the two countries have a lot of potential to complement each other in the defense industry. Slovakia is ready to cooperate with Vietnam in researching and implementing joint projects in this field.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Robert Kaliňák suggested that the two sides work together to rediscover historical sites in Slovakia, where President Ho Chi Minh visited during his revolutionary career, to contribute to educating the younger generations of the two countries about the traditional friendship and cooperation as a foundation for sustainable bilateral cooperation in the future.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Robert Kaliňák highly appreciated Vietnam's role at international and regional forums; expressed his hope that the two sides would continue to closely coordinate in international organizations as well as within the ASEAN-EU cooperation framework to promote new cooperation initiatives, contributing to peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Slovakia also affirmed that the Vietnamese community in Slovakia is an important bridge, contributing to promoting friendly relations and enhancing understanding between the people of the two countries./.
