According to billionaire Elon Musk, Xmail will have a simpler design, with messages displayed similar to direct messages (DMs), which could create a major change in the way people send and receive emails.
Billionaire Elon Musk is getting closer to bringing Xmail to everyone
The news came after X user DogeDesigner (@cb_doge) posted: "X Mail would be great. [email protected]" along with an image. Elon Musk responded succinctly: "Yeah. On the to-do list."
The mention of Xmail is not too new news because previously in February 2024, Elon Musk also mentioned Xmail when answering an employee's question "When are we creating XMail?" and gave the answer "Soon".
Elon Musk also confirmed that Xmail will have a DM-style interface that is different from the traditional email format. Instead of long message threads, Xmail may display emails like conversations, aiming to make sending and receiving emails faster and easier. This design could be the key to Xmail standing out from its competitors.
Xmail is just one part of the "bigger X"
The Xmail service could be a step forward in Elon Musk's vision of turning X into an "everything app," where users can do audio, video , messaging, banking, payments, and more in a single app.
While Xmail may offer a different experience than Gmail, it will still face stiff competition. Gmail has over 1.8 billion users (as of 2024) and is the world's most popular email service, with features like advanced organizational tools, spam filtering, Google Workspace integration, and high security.
However, Xmail may appeal to users looking for a simpler way to manage their messages. Instead of dealing with long email threads, users may prefer the convenience of a DM-style inbox.
There is no specific information yet on when Xmail will launch or how it will be used. Elon Musk has said the service is on his to-do list but has not provided further details. Only time will tell if Xmail can achieve the same popularity as Gmail.
