“Continuing 100 years of tradition with a spirit of innovation, commitment and responsibility”

(GLO)- That was the direction of comrade Ho Van Nien - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council at the conference "Meeting and honoring exemplary journalists" and awarding the 14th Gia Lai Provincial Press Award held on the afternoon of June 17 at Hall 2-9 (Pleiku City).

The conference was held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025).

Attending the conference were comrades: Pham Thi To Hai - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department; Ayun H'But - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Pham Thi Lan - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, together with leaders of departments, branches, sectors, provincial unions, leaders of 17 districts, towns, cities and many journalists of many generations in the province.

Honoring outstanding journalists

Speaking at the conference, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Ho Van Nien, on behalf of the provincial leaders, expressed deep gratitude to generations of journalists in the province. The Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee affirmed: Through the process of construction, growth and development, the team of journalists in the province has always maintained political courage and professional ethics; constantly innovated, created, closely followed reality, promptly reflected the thoughts and aspirations of the people, and the outstanding and urgent issues of life. The press has become an important force contributing to maintaining political stability, socio-economic development, maintaining national defense and security and building a clean and strong political system in the locality.

Many press works have great ideological and artistic values ​​and influence, actively contributing to the propaganda of the Party's guidelines, policies and laws of the State and the development orientations of the province and winning awards at national press competitions such as: National Press Award; Political contest to protect the Party's ideological foundation; National Press Award on the National Assembly and People's Council (Dien Hong Award); Press Award "For the cause of great national unity", National Press Award on Party building (Golden Hammer and Sickle Award)...

On behalf of the provincial leaders, Provincial Party Secretary Ho Van Nien respectfully commended and congratulated the great, responsible and dedicated contributions of press agencies, journalists, collaborators and those working in the field of journalism in the province over the past time.

Faced with the increasing demands in the process of innovation and development, especially in the context of Gia Lai actively preparing for the arrangement of administrative units and new development orientations after the merger, Provincial Party Secretary Ho Van Nien requested press agencies to continue to maintain their political stance, enhance their role in guiding ideology and public opinion. Along with that, it is necessary to promote digital transformation in the field of journalism and communication, actively innovate the operating model towards multimedia integration; improve the quality of content and persuasiveness of press works because among the many information streams as today, people really need authentic, reliable and carefully verified press products.


“Continuing the 100-year tradition of formation and development, with the spirit of innovation, dedication and responsibility, I believe that the press agencies and journalists in the province will continue to promote the tradition, actively contributing to the sustainable and comprehensive development of Gia Lai province today and the new Gia Lai province” - Provincial Party Secretary Ho Van Nien expected.

On this occasion, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 9 collectives and 64 individuals, and posthumously awarded certificates of merit to 6 individuals with many achievements and positive contributions to the development of Gia Lai province's press on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day.

Expressing her honor to be present and receive a certificate of merit at the "once in a hundred years" event, journalist Ngo Thi Nga - former Deputy Director of Gia Lai Provincial Radio and Television Station sent her deep gratitude to the provincial leaders of all periods and colleagues who created conditions for her to grow up and fulfill her duties well from the early days of journalism until her retirement in 2015. Referring to the revolution of streamlining the apparatus and merging provinces and cities, journalist Ngo Thi Nga acknowledged: "This also poses many challenges when journalists have to increase their learning, innovate their reporting methods, be ready to master technology, and confidently enter the digital age. I hope that future generations of journalists will continue to train to have a bright mind, sharp pen, and pure heart in the era of national development".

Honored to receive a certificate of merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee on this occasion and invited to attend the program "Party and State leaders meet and honor outstanding journalists" in Hanoi on June 20, journalist Nguyen Vinh Hoang - Gia Lai Newspaper reporter happily shared his great pride in his writing career: "This is not only my personal honor but also the effort of the whole team. To have high-quality works and win prizes at major competitions, we are grateful for the direction of the Editorial Board in suggesting topics and guiding implementation".

Affirming the prestige and position of the Provincial Press Awards

Following the conference "Meeting and honoring exemplary journalists" is the closing ceremony and awarding ceremony of the 14th Gia Lai Provincial Press Award - 2025.

This year, the Organizing Committee received 109 works in 4 types of journalism. According to the evaluation of the Jury, the works participating in this year's competition not only increased in quantity and quality but also diversified in genre, rich in topics, closely following events; discovered and mentioned many new, difficult, urgent issues that have been and are being raised in practice. It is the crystallization of the creative labor process with sharp political thinking, high intellectual capacity, pure professional ethics and noble social responsibility of journalists towards the Party, the country and Gia Lai homeland.

Journalist Huynh Kien - Editor-in-Chief of Gia Lai Newspaper, Chairman of the Provincial Journalists Association, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee of the 14th Gia Lai Provincial Press Awards commented: The entries have closely followed the information and propaganda tasks, selected rich and diverse topics, promptly and vividly reflected local and regional issues. Many entries demonstrate new, typical ways of doing things in many fields such as: digital transformation, changing thinking in production, environmental protection; promoting traditional cultural identity, developing tourism from indigenous culture... In addition, many entries in the 2 thematic awards "Protecting the Party's ideological foundation, fighting against wrong and hostile views" and writing on the topic "Party building, building the political system", contributing to raising awareness of the Party building and rectification in the new situation.

Some typical works in many fields by authors/groups of authors include: Young ethnic minorities full of love for the village (Phuong Dung-Phan Lai); Greening the Central Highlands battlefield (Vinh Hoang-Quang Tan-H'Tuyet); Preventing and fighting to stop the sabotage activities of hostile forces (Minh Trieu); Gia Lai's key crops: Breakthrough with million-dollar export orders (Ngoc Ha-Minh Dien-Hai Ha); Barriers or opportunities for coffee made in Gia Lai (Hong Uyen-Vien Khanh-R'Pien-Duong Trung-Hai Ha); Gia Lai determined to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses - the goal is not just a number (My Tien); Bitter journey (Hong Son-Thuy Trinh-Nong Van Hoa-Thanh Tu)...

Regarding “hot” issues, reporters and journalists from local and central press agencies stationed in the province quickly took action to reflect and thoroughly investigate, which received public attention and welcome, such as: “Underground” clinics operating in Gia Lai (Tran Quang Thai); Extremely hot illegal logging in border areas (Duc Hai-Thanh Sang-Duong Trung); a series of news and articles about Anh Phat bus company assaulting people (Le Van Ngoc); Illegal land is rampant, who is responsible? (Le Nam-Minh Phuong)…

Journalist Huynh Kien commented: “The 14th Gia Lai Provincial Press Award - 2025 continues to affirm its prestige, professionalism and is increasingly large in scale and attractive to the team of journalists in the province. If in the past there was a situation where journalists reported events and issues in a "beat the drum and leave the stick" manner, now press agencies and many journalists have pursued the matter to the end. That shows that the Provincial Party Committee and Government have paid great attention to and trusted the press; resolutely resolved the cases reported by the press, bringing practical results in management and leadership, strengthening the people's trust in the Party Committee and local authorities at all levels...".

At the ceremony, 40 excellent press works were selected for awards, including 4 A prizes, 8 B prizes, 12 C prizes and 16 consolation prizes. Sharing about the 4-part television report series "The journey across the waves to bring Tet to Truong Sa" which was awarded the A prize, journalist Kim Ngan, representing the Gia Lai Newspaper group of authors, said: For him, the reporting trip to Truong Sa at the end of 2024 was the most special trip in his career as a journalist. "Coming to Truong Sa, we are even more proud of our country, clearly feeling how sacred the love for the Fatherland is. We want to express that strong emotion through films and beautiful images to send to the audience on the mainland" - journalist Kim Ngan said.

Also awarded the A prize on this occasion was the 3-part series "Young ethnic minorities full of love for the village" by Phan Lai-Phuong Dung. The work reflects the inheritance and continuation of the heritage in creative ways of many young people born and raised in the village. With love for the place where they were born and raised, and with the support of Party committees, authorities and Youth Union organizations at all levels, they have proactively approached, learned and effectively applied social networking platforms to promote and bring the national cultural identity far and wide. This work also won the C prize of the National Press Award for Youth Union work and youth movements in 2025. Journalist Phan Lai said: This is the motivation for her and her colleagues to have more quality works to serve readers in the coming time.

Talking about the series of articles "Clinic operating "underground" in Gia Lai" awarded B prize at the 14th Gia Lai Provincial Press Awards, journalist Tran Quang Thai (Vietnam News Agency in Gia Lai) said: From information provided by readers in mid-September 2024, he wrote many articles about incidents such as: "Hiding behind" free eye exams for the elderly to sell functional foods; Signs of fraud at the facility "Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy" (75 Nguyen Tat Thanh, Pleiku City)...

Talking about pursuing topics that are considered to be a challenge for journalists, journalist Tran Quang Thai said: “While I was working on these articles, there were people who called me with the intention of bribing me to ignore the mistakes. But I believe that once people provide me with information, they have placed their trust in me, I cannot disappoint them, and I cannot forget the social responsibility of a writer.”
