Quang Tri province declares natural disaster emergency

Accordingly, the Provincial People's Committee requested localities in the province to urgently mobilize forces, means, and materials to drain water in flooded areas, temporarily repair canals and dykes, and at the same time review and count the damage, and clearly identify projects that need urgent investment.

Along with that, continue to review and inventory the damage, clearly identify projects that need urgent investment, and propose timely and appropriate support plans to ensure social security for people in disaster areas. The top goal is to restore production and stabilize people's lives as soon as possible.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment – the standing agency for natural disaster prevention and control – is responsible for presiding over and urging localities to implement response plans. At the same time, it guides the implementation of seed and fertilizer support; ensures the effective operation of irrigation systems, dykes and construction of emergency works. The Department of Finance and the Department of Construction coordinate in allocating funds to support emergency damage; reviews damaged traffic works, proposes repair solutions to ensure traffic safety.

Other departments and branches, based on their assigned functions and tasks, proactively coordinate to ensure effective and proper implementation of disaster recovery work.

Previously, from June 11 to 14, due to the impact of storm No. 1, Quang Tri province suffered a very heavy to extremely heavy rain over a large area, with rainfall ranging from 450 - 600 mm within 72 hours, some places exceeding 770 mm. Heavy rain concentrated in a short period of time caused rivers to rise rapidly, causing serious flooding in many areas, especially in southern districts such as Hai Lang, Trieu Phong and Dong Ha city, causing extremely heavy damage to people and property.
