From the initial small meetings, the event has become an important platform, providing thousands of young people with the opportunity to learn advanced technologies, inspire creativity and start-ups, contributing to building a vibrant and connected young technology community in the Central region.
Originated from passion
In 2014, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Nhi, who connects the Google developer community in Vietnam and Southeast Asian countries, saw the potential of young programmers in Da Nang but lacked a technology playground. She decided to bring Google Developer Group (GDG) to the city, laying the foundation for a vibrant technology and startup ecosystem.
Thanks to the cooperation of young people with a passion for technology, the community is growing stronger, empowering many generations of young programmers in Da Nang and the region to have more opportunities to learn, reach out to the world , and bring Vietnamese technology to the international level.
Over the past ten years, GDG Central has organized more than 60 programs, maintaining 3-4 events each year with new and quality content.
“What I appreciate about the programming community is that you always maintain enthusiasm and perseverance in connecting, developing, and improving your skills. Many of you joined GDG from the early days when you were students, then graduated, went to work, and then returned to become mentors, speakers, and continued to lead seminars and community exchanges,” Ms. Phuong Nhi shared.
Nguyen Minh Dung, currently an engineer at the Software Technology Center - VTVCab, said: “Joining the GDG community in the Central region helps me learn more than technology, which is soft skills, connecting good programmers in the industry. Every year, the event brings new, diverse experiences and always changes to adapt to the daily changes of modern technology trends. Google I/O Extended is a useful playground to help young people update new technology trends, promote their capacity and develop professional skills, and find job opportunities.”
Fueling creativity
Held annually, the Google I/O technology event in the US is an opportunity for Google to announce important announcements and update new technologies to the community. At the same time, it opens up opportunities for programmers everywhere to interact, connect, practice and share experiences.
In 2025, the localized version of the program - Google I/O Extended Central - continues to be a bridge connecting the technology ecosystem, creating development momentum for the regional programming community. The event took place on July 12, attracting more than 700 programmers and technology students to participate.
Attending Google I/O Extended 2025 for the first time, Le Van Bao Huy, a Data Science and AI student at the Vietnam - Korea University of Information Technology and Communications, said that this was an event he could not miss. Bao Huy talked about his three goals when coming to the program: “Learn practical knowledge from speakers - people who are working directly with Google technology; connect with the community, meet young people with the same passion, build more relationships with seniors in the profession; find inspiration for self-development, have more motivation and a clearer direction for the career path ahead”.
“In the future, Google will bring many initiatives and support programs for the city’s young technology community, especially the Google for Startups AI Solutions Lab program, which will be held for the first time in Da Nang for AI startup projects. We hope that many young people will continue to be ignited with passion and firmly step on the technology journey,” said Ms. Phuong Nhi.
