Dragon Stone Rampart - heroic ancient mark of Quang land

Following the ramparts of the Quang Nam Association

Dragon Stone Rampart is a 2m long stone rampart located in Lam Mon village (Chien Dan commune). The relic was built in the mid-16th century and has been described in Nguyen Dynasty documents.

According to local elders, the rampart was built by ancient people on high land, winding along the mountainside or ravine, slope; some parts are high, some parts are low like the shape of a dragon's body.

At the foot of the rampart there is a slope, the body of the slope has layers of rocks stacked on top of each other like dragon scales so the ancients called it Dragon Stone Slope. Because the rampart and the slope are next to each other, it is called Dragon Stone Slope.

In the past, Luy Da Rong was like a military rampart, built by patriot Nguyen Duy Hieu to recruit soldiers, forge weapons, store food and train troops; at the same time, protect the bases of the Quang Nam Righteous Association from afar in the former areas of Bac Tra My and Tien Phuoc.

This was the place where the fierce battle of the insurgents in the Quang Nam Righteous Association movement with the French army and the Hue court (1885) took place.

Dragon Stone Citadel has an important significance in the resistance war against the French of the army and people of Phu Ninh, Quang Nam in the past and the whole country in general in the late 19th century.

With that historical value, last August, Dragon Stone Citadel was recognized as a city-level historical relic by the People's Committee of Da Nang city.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhang, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Chien Dan Commune, said: "Under the impact of time, natural disasters, and wars, many sections of the ramparts have been deformed. However, what remains today is tangible evidence of the history of the ancient Quang Nam citadel, bearing many political, cultural, and architectural values in the early days of our ancestors opening up the South."

Promoting the value of Dragon Stone Citadel relic

According to Vice Chairwoman of Da Nang City People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Luy Da Rong being ranked as a city-level relic is a worthy recognition, affirming the historical, cultural and geological value of the relic, and is also a commitment of the Da Nang City government in preserving, honoring and promoting the heritage value in the coming time.

The city leaders requested all levels and sectors, especially the Party Committee, government and people of Chien Dan commune to pay attention to the management of relics and heritages in the area in accordance with legal regulations. Strengthen capacity and closely coordinate with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to effectively manage and protect relics in the commune in general, and Luy Da Rong historical relic in particular.

In addition, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi requested the locality to set up markers, establish cadastral records and complete the dossier for granting land use right certificates for the relic area to ensure a protective corridor and avoid encroachment and damage.

City leaders also requested localities to step up heritage propaganda and education in the community; encourage socialization and mobilize legal resources to restore, embellish and promote relics...
