VIDEO : 400-year-old Dong Thech stone tomb of the Dinh Cong family in Muong Dong. By: Viet Ha. In the last days of October, in the cool weather, we came to explore the ancient tomb of Dong Thech. From Hoa Binh ward (Phu Tho province), we traveled about 35 km to Muong Dong. Standing on provincial road 12B, visitors can see tall, moss-covered rocks standing tall among the green grass, creating a quiet and sacred space. Entering the cemetery, everyone was overwhelmed by hundreds of ancient tombs lying close together, in the middle of which were countless large and small stone pillars standing straight. Some pillars were nearly 3 meters high and more than a meter wide, like symbols of power that defied time. Many stone slabs were covered with green moss, engraved with ancient inscriptions that faded over the years, adding to the mystery of the ancient stone tomb.
Ms. Dinh Thi Dien, a 20th generation descendant of the Dinh Cong family, who regularly takes care of the stone tomb area, said that for the local people and the Dinh Cong family, this place is considered a "holy land", a sacred land that no one dares to violate, associated with the legend of the Dinh family, the richest and most powerful in the ancient Muong land. Ms. Dien said that according to the elders and ancient documents, the Dinh family had the merit of establishing and governing the vast Muong Dong region. The founder of the family was Mr. Dinh Nhu Lenh, but the person who brought the family's reputation to the peak of power was Mr. Dinh Cong Ky. Mrs. Dien said that Mr. Dinh Cong Ky had contributed to helping King Le quell rebellions in the Northwest region. Thanks to his many glorious achievements, he was awarded the title of Commander of the Guard, Admiral Uy Quan Cong, and was given the right to govern and inherit the Muong Dong region by the royal court. According to observations, the mossy, ancient stone slabs are all engraved with Nom script. According to the Dinh family genealogy, when Dinh Cong Ky passed away on February 22, 1650, because of his great contributions to the royal court, King Le also ordered precious green stone slabs to be moved from Thanh Hoa to Muong Dong to erect tomb pillars for him. It was those giant stone pillars that created the magnificent and mysterious appearance of the Dong Thech tomb complex today.
With its outstanding values, in 1997, Dong Thech ancient tomb was recognized as a national historical and archaeological relic. According to historical documents, this is the resting place of the Dinh family, the mandarin family that ruled the Muong Dong region from the 16th to 18th centuries. The stone slabs in the Dong Thech ancient tomb have patterns like fossilized wood grains. Kim Boi commune authorities identified Dong Thech as a priceless archaeological treasure, providing valuable scientific evidence about the cultural life, beliefs and burial customs of the ancient Muong people, especially the Dinh aristocratic class. After 400 years, the Dong Thech stone tomb complex still stands tall in the clouds of the Muong land. The moss-covered stone slabs and the faded inscriptions over the years are not only traces of a once glorious family, but also historical witnesses, recording the mark of a prosperous period in Muong culture.
