The work about the mother won the Special Prize in the writing contest "Overcoming Fate"

The 8th "Overcoming Fate" writing contest concluded and honored people with disabilities with extraordinary willpower, spreading faith and a strong desire to live.

On the afternoon of October 29, in Hanoi , Thanh Nien Magazine, Academy of Journalism and Communication, and Vietnam Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans jointly organized the closing ceremony and award ceremony of the 8th "Overcoming Fate" writing contest.

The contest is held to honor and introduce role models of youth, teenagers and people with disabilities, who are in difficult circumstances, but always nurture a strong will and desire to overcome harsh fate.

The contest contributes to spreading the dynamism and creativity of young people in establishing themselves and their careers, and is also an opportunity for people with disabilities and orphans to express their wishes to integrate into the community and not be discriminated against.

The organizing committee received more than 1,000 entries from all over the country. Although the theme was not easy to express, the authors enthusiastically searched for typical characters, meticulously collected information and skillfully used many types of journalism to successfully portray the portraits of those who overcame difficulties.

The entries introduced people with special circumstances, but extraordinary will to live.

Among them, Ms. Nguyen Minh Chau, the character in the article "Chau's Story - a mother, a teacher, a change maker". Although only 1.19m tall due to achondroplasia disability, she overcame a difficult childhood and worked hard for international organizations. Currently, she is working at the disability integration project of the United Nations Development Program in Vietnam. Ms. Chau's story is a source of inspiration for millions of people with disabilities.

Mr. Phan Sy Long, the character in the story "The Eastern Dragon", was immobilized after an accident at the age of 16. Mr. Long used his mouth to hold a pen to write, accumulated nearly 400 poems, more than 800 pages of memoirs and published 3 books. He also founded the online course "Awaken the voice inside you", chose to live as a warrior to light up the faith of those who are desperate.

Besides the narrative articles, there are also touching works, such as: "Rising from challenges - continuing to write life's dream" by a group of authors from the Ministry of National Defense , sincerely praising ordinary people who have turned adversity into motivation, affirming their own values.

At the ceremony, the Organizing Committee awarded a Special Prize worth 15 million VND to the work "Chau's Story - a mother, a teacher, a change maker" by author Nguyen Minh Chau; an A Prize worth 10 million VND to the work "Eastern Dragon" by author Pham Sy Long; 2 B Prizes, 3 C Prizes, 5 Encouragement Prizes.

In addition, the contest also has thematic awards: "Inspirational character", "Character mastering science and technology", "Creativity" and "Passion", to recognize and encourage the positive contributions of role models to the common development of society.
