Continue to promote malaria prevention and control

On July 8, at Khanh Vinh Medical Center, a delegation from Khanh Hoa Department of Health had a working session with the Medical Center and health stations of the communes of Khanh Vinh, Trung Khanh Vinh, Tay Khanh Vinh, Bac Khanh Vinh, and Nam Khanh Vinh on malaria prevention and control in the province.

According to the report of the Department of Health , since the beginning of the year, the province has recorded 37 cases of malaria, most of which are scattered in the communes of Khanh Vinh area. Of which, Tay Khanh Vinh commune is the locality with the highest number of cases with 19 cases, accounting for nearly half of the total cases in the province. Of the cases, 35 have been cured, while 2 cases are being treated at Khanh Vinh Medical Center and the Provincial Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

At the meeting, the participants reported on the difficulties and problems related to zoning high-risk groups for malaria; epidemiological investigation and investigation of cases. In addition, the epidemic prevention checkpoints have stopped operating; it is summer vacation time so children follow their parents to the fields; there is no alternative source of Prymaquin (drug to treat the spread and prevent relapse)...

Taking note of the opinions of the meeting participants, the leaders of the Department of Health requested the entire health sector to continue to promote malaria prevention and control activities; communes in Khanh Vinh area continue to support the health sector to strictly manage migrants, those who frequently go to the fields and forests; consider reopening epidemic prevention checkpoints; promote the mobilization of people to limit their travel to areas with high risk of malaria. The provincial Center for Disease Control proactively provides professional support in investigating and handling insects in high-risk areas; promptly have a plan to mobilize resources and supply Prymaquin; medical facilities promote effective treatment of malaria, avoiding severe cases and deaths...
