On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the death of Dang Huy Tru, towards the 25th anniversary of Hoi An Ancient Town being recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage, on the morning of August 20, the Hoi An Center for Cultural Heritage Management and Conservation organized a scientific discussion with the theme "Dang Huy Tru and Hoi An". The discussion recorded 15 presentations on the heritage and contributions of Dang Huy Tru to Hoi An, Quang Nam in particular, and the whole country in general; the issue of preserving and promoting the heritage values of Dang Huy Tru in Hoi An.

The famous Dang Huy Tru (1825 - 1874), whose given name was Hoang Trung, and whose pen name was Vong Tan, Tinh Trai, was from Thanh Luong village, Huong Xuan commune, Huong Tra district (now Huong Xuan ward, Huong Tra town, Thua Thien Hue province). Born and educated in a family with a tradition of studiousness, mandarinship, and mandarinship, Dang Huy Tru was famous for his intelligence, good study, and courtesy since childhood. At the age of 18 (1843), he passed the Bachelor's exam, and at the age of 22 (1847), he passed the Doctorate exam. Due to many difficulties, it was not until 1856 that he began his official career and became one of the famous mandarins of the Nguyen Dynasty, making many contributions to the history of the nation, and was considered a practical reformer of our country in the mid-19th century.
During his life, the famous Dang Huy Tru went to work and work in many localities, and in each place he left good feelings in the hearts of the people. However, perhaps Dang Huy Tru had a deep affection for the land of Hoi An, Quang Nam . And this land also had certain influences on his career and reformist thoughts...
Many documents at the seminar also proved that, during more than 6 years of attachment to Hoi An, Quang Nam, the famous Dang Huy Tru had a close affection for this land... Currently, some relics in Hoi An still preserve his traces and writings such as the horizontal plaque "Quan ư hai giả nan vi thủy" and the stele at Van chi Minh Huong, the stele at Ong Pagoda, the Dang clan's church in Hoi An, the biography of Zen master Quan Thong,... and poetic works about Hoi An. These traces and writings are valuable scientific sources for research, clarifying historical and cultural issues in general and Dang Huy Tru's contributions in particular in Hoi An.
The 15 papers presented by historical scientists at the Seminar gathered almost all the research and collected data on the Heritage and contributions of Dang Huy Tru to Hoi An, Quang Nam in particular and the whole country in general as well as the issue of preserving and promoting heritage values such as handwriting, relics, etc. left by the famous Dang Huy Tru in Hoi An, Quang Nam.
