HCMC - Metro Line 1 has reached 99% of the total project volume, the remaining 1% is the acceptance items to prepare for commercial operation at the end of this year.
Over the past 5 days, Metro Line 1 has been running at 100% capacity on a trial basis. This is the final important step before officially running commercially, marking an important milestone in the development of public transport in Ho Chi Minh City. 15 trains run continuously from morning to night with the lowest frequency of about 4 minutes and 30 seconds, peak with a maximum frequency of 10 minutes (2 reserve trains). Each train has a maximum capacity of 930 passengers, equivalent to the expected load when officially put into operation. During operation, trains are closely monitored by a team of engineers and operators. The stations have also installed security devices and signage to ensure the safety and convenience of passengers. Metro Line 1 has a total investment of more than 43,700 billion VND, nearly 20km long from Long Binh Depot (Thu Duc City) to Ben Thanh Station (District 1). The line has 11 elevated stations running along Hanoi - Vo Nguyen Giap Highway, and 3 underground stations in the city center. After the trial run and commercial operation, the trains will be gathered at Long Binh depot (Thu Duc city). This is where inspection, repair and maintenance activities will take place to ensure that the trains are always in good condition and ready to serve passengers. Long Binh Depot includes operation and maintenance buildings, main workshop and especially a train parking lot with dozens of rails arranged for train parking. The investor of Metro Line 1 said that this area always has hundreds of workers working every day and has two layers of tight security, along with many security cameras to ensure the safety of the trains. In addition, to connect to the elevated stations, the project also built 9 pedestrian bridges, along with parking lots for Metro passengers. Currently, the pedestrian bridges connecting Metro Station No. 1 have been basically completed. The pedestrian bridge architecture is designed similar to the main station structure with a steel dome and heat-resistant roofing panels. Along both sides of the bridge are flower beds and trees, combined with natural ventilation to create a comfortable and cool feeling for passengers when approaching the station. The Management Board of Urban Railways (MAUR) said that from November 18 to 30, the independent consulting consortium is expected to complete the safety assessment reports and submit them to the Railway Department for appraisal. After that, Metro Line 1 will be accepted and put into operation at the end of the year.
