On April 25, Ho Chi Minh City organized the announcement of 50 outstanding literary and artistic works, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.
50 years of creativity and dedication
People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, said that half a century after the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, the artists of Ho Chi Minh City have continuously matured, engaged in serious and persistent artistic activities, and produced many excellent works, deeply reflecting the lives and souls of the people and the land named after Uncle Ho.
The selection and recognition of literary and artistic works of the city is organized to honor and commend outstanding literary and artistic works of high value, effectively contributing to the development of literature and art in the 50-year journey of building and developing the city. At the same time, to acknowledge the efforts and creative achievements, to encourage and motivate artists to continue to promote dynamism and creativity, to continue to compose, work, and contribute in many forms, creating many valuable works of art, meeting the development requirements of Ho Chi Minh City in the coming time.
People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City and Mr. Ngo Minh Hai, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union (right cover), presented flowers to the authors whose works were honored.
The specialized councils nominated outstanding works in 9 fields: literature, theater, music , cinema, fine arts, architecture, photography, dance, and literature and art of ethnic minorities. These are literary and artistic works composed and published between April 30, 1975 and December 31, 2023, achieving quality in terms of ideological value, artistry, and themes praising the glorious and heroic tradition of struggle; the construction and development of Ho Chi Minh City; praising the life and people of a civilized, modern, and affectionate city.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, the electronic information page for voting on typical literary and artistic works in Ho Chi Minh City recorded more than 55,000 votes from the public - demonstrating the interest and support of society for artistic activities.
The city-level voting council has unanimously recognized 50 official literary and artistic works in various fields. Specifically, the fields of fine arts, photography, literature, architecture, ethnic minority literature and art, dance - each field has 5 works, cinema has 6 works, music and theater have 7 works.
Spreading values and aspirations
In the field of literature, works such as: "Homeland of the Underground" (writer Vien Phuong), "In R" (writer Le Van Thao), "Blue Eyes" (writer Nguyen Nhat Anh), the poetry collection "Whispering with the River" (poet Hoai Vu)... all carry the breath of culture, history, people and land of Ho Chi Minh City.
In the field of theater, there are the play "La sau rieng" (author Hoang Dung), the opera "Le cong ky an" (author NSND Huu Danh), the play "Da co hoai lang" (author NSUT Thanh Hoang)... and many other works that have outlined the appearance of the Ho Chi Minh City stage. The honored works are imbued with Vietnamese cultural nuances, telling stories of Vietnamese history through unique theatrical art.
People's Artist Huu Danh said he was very honored and proud to have his work selected to honor the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. The work is the first product of the Ho Chi Minh City Opera Theatre made from the theater's own resources - bringing the Ho Chi Minh City Opera Theatre to a new milestone: a gold medal at the 2018 National Tuong, Bai Choi and Folk Drama Festival; the Ho Chi Minh City Creative Award in 2021 and now being named in the list of 50 outstanding cultural and artistic works.
The flow of 50 years of culture and art cannot fail to mention the photographic works that have captured precious moments of nature, people and the renovation process. Many works have contributed to spreading and promoting the image of Ho Chi Minh City in the international arena. Examples include: "Secretary Vo Van Kiet hands over the flag of departure to the youth of Ho Chi Minh City" (Thien Dieu), "Sai Gon is stubborn" (Nguyen A), "Overcoming the darkness" (Tran The Phong)...
The fields of fine arts, literature of ethnic minorities, dance, architecture, cinema... also have many excellent works created from the breath of life. According to artist Nguyen Quang Vinh, representative of the group of authors of the ceramic painting series "Ben Duoc Temple", this is a recognition of the tireless efforts of artists in the 50-year flow of literature and art in Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the whole country in general.
According to musician Pham Minh Tuan, author of the song "City of Love and Nostalgia", literary and artistic works of Ho Chi Minh City have contributed to creating a city rich in cultural identity. "The award is very valuable, but more valuable is that the work becomes the "child" of the people. I hope that the song will continue to serve the public and the works of the young generation of artists will make the country's music famous in the new era" - musician Pham Minh Tuan expressed.
People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized: "This is also an opportunity to recognize and set new requirements and expectations in the process of building and developing the city's literature and arts in the integration period, promoting the development of the cultural industry. In the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to organize, promote and widely introduce valuable literary and artistic works to the public."
Ms. Duong Cam Thuy, President of the Ho Chi Minh City Cinema Association, acknowledged: "All works deserve to be honored, so selecting 50 works is very difficult. We want to introduce more works to the public. When the works are promoted and introduced, the creators will consider it as a guideline to make the works better, better, newer, meeting the needs of entertainment, ideologicaleducation , humanistic values, contributing positively to the sustainable development of the city's literature and arts after the country's reunification."
