General Secretary To Lam receives President in charge of Global Governance, Qualcomm Corporation

The General Secretary asked Qualcomm to promote technology transfer, support and share experiences with Vietnamese partners to improve human resources' capacity in science and technology.

On the afternoon of June 10, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received Mr. Alex Rogers, President in charge of Global Governance, Qualcomm Corporation.

At the meeting, the General Secretary welcomed Mr. Alex Rogers' visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the second year of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The General Secretary expressed his delight at the positive and substantive developments of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, affirming that Vietnam attaches importance to developing relations with the US, and hopes that the bilateral relationship will continue to deepen, become effective and stable in all fields, especially in economics , trade and investment, science and technology, innovation, education and training, for the benefit of the people and businesses of the two countries.

The General Secretary congratulated and highly appreciated the success of Qualcomm's investment projects in Vietnam, welcomed Qualcomm to maintain and increase investment in ongoing projects, and expand into areas where Qualcomm has strengths and Vietnam has demand such as high technology, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and digital infrastructure, thereby contributing to making Vietnam a regional and global center for AI and semiconductors.

The General Secretary also suggested that Qualcomm strengthen cooperation with Vietnamese enterprises, promote technology transfer, support and share experiences with Vietnamese partners to improve human resources' capacity in science and technology, and support Vietnamese enterprises to participate in the global value chain.

At the same time, the General Secretary asked Mr. Alex Rogers and US businesses investing and doing business in Vietnam to continue to support the bilateral negotiations to soon achieve results, contributing to promoting stable and sustainable economic, trade and investment cooperation, meeting the interests of the people and businesses of the two countries.

The General Secretary shared the vision and determination of the Party, State and people of Vietnam to realize the development goal of becoming a developing country with modern industry and high middle income by 2030, and a developed country with high income by 2045.

The General Secretary emphasized that in order to achieve those growth targets, Vietnam has issued many important Resolutions to create the most favorable conditions for science and technology development and attract the participation of the private sector, including Resolution 57-NQ/TW, identifying science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation as the main driving force for economic growth and Resolution 68-NQ/TW, identifying the private economy as an important driving force of the national economy, a pioneering force in science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation.

In that spirit, the General Secretary affirmed that the Party and State of Vietnam pay great attention to and create the most favorable conditions for domestic and foreign enterprises, including US enterprises, to invest and do business effectively and sustainably in Vietnam; at the same time, they welcome Vietnamese experts who have studied and trained abroad to return and contribute to the country's development, including the field of startups.

Mr. Alex Rogers expressed his gratitude to the General Secretary for taking the time to receive the delegation, saying that the main purpose of the visit was to launch the Artificial Intelligence Research and Development (AI R&D) Center in Hanoi. This is one of three research centers outside the United States of Qualcomm Corporation.

He assessed that the level of Vietnamese AI experts is currently in the top 20 in the world, with a large number of experts trained both domestically and internationally. This is a great potential for Vietnam to become a center for AI and semiconductors in the region.

Mr. Alex Rogers said that Qualcomm Group, with more than 20 years of experience operating in Vietnam, has cooperated well with partners with strengths in these two fields, and is ready to cooperate with Vietnamese enterprises to build and develop the semiconductor and artificial intelligence ecosystem in Vietnam; at the same time, it is committed to continue to invest more in Vietnam, including nurturing Vietnamese talents in global artificial intelligence development, contributing to the development of Vietnam and the Vietnam-US relationship.

Mr. Alex Rogers welcomed the directions of Vietnam's senior leaders on improving the business investment environment, as well as the active and effective support of ministries and branches for US businesses; highly appreciated Vietnam's socio-economic development strategy, especially the development of science, technology, innovation, digital transformation and identifying the private economy as the main driving force in socio-economic development, in the spirit of Resolution 57-NQ/TW and Resolution 68-NQ/TW; thereby creating motivation and favorable conditions for US businesses to expand investment in Vietnam.

Mr. Alex Rogers also expressed his belief that under the leadership and strategic vision of General Secretary To Lam and Vietnamese leaders, Vietnam will achieve its set development goals.

Mr. Alex Rogers welcomed and appreciated the fact that Vietnam and the United States have had positive exchanges on trade issues in the past time, hoping that bilateral negotiations will soon achieve good results so that businesses of the two countries can be assured of a sustainable trade framework for cooperation and investment, business, bringing practical benefits to the people and businesses of the two countries./.
