Summary of pig breeding model applying biosecurity measures

Conference to summarize the pig breeding model applying biosecurity measures in Chieng Den commune.

The model has been deployed since 2022, in Nong Lo and Tam villages, Chieng Den commune, with 25 farmer households participating with a total of 134 breeding sows, each household raising 5-7 pigs. Participating households are trained in breeding pig techniques, applying biosafety measures and are supported with breeds and materials under the supervision, support and advice of the Farmers' Association at all levels and the commune authorities. After more than 3 years of implementing the model, up to now, the model has been expanded to 25 more households, bringing the total number of participating households to 50. According to the assessment, the breeding sow herd is developing well, each sow gives birth to 2-3 litters/year; each litter has 8-10 pigs; bringing the total number of pigs to over 2,500 pigs, the average selling price is 1.2 million VND/pig, the average income is 65-70 million VND/household/year after deducting expenses.

Delegates visited the pig breeding model at the household of member Quang Van Muon, Trung Tam village, Chieng Den commune.

The model has brought economic efficiency to farmer members, created jobs, increased income for households, contributed to helping people eliminate hunger, reduce poverty and move towards sustainable enrichment. The model also helps people improve their livestock farming skills, apply measures to raise livestock safely, reduce the spread of diseases, improve product quality, protect the environment; be more proactive in production, more dynamic in promoting and introducing the consumption of their products.
