This afternoon, January 3, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Le Minh Hoan, held an online conference to summarize the work in 2023 and deploy the plan for 2024 of the agriculture and rural development sector. According to the report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2023, the GDP growth of the entire agricultural sector will be 3.83%, the highest in recent years, contributing greatly to the 5.05% growth of the economy . Agriculture continues to affirm its important position and is the pillar of the economy, firmly ensuring food security, major economic balances and contributing to macroeconomic stability.

Total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products remained high, over 53 billion USD; the highest trade surplus ever was 12.07 billion USD, up 43.7%. Of which, some items increased to record highs such as: vegetables and fruits 5.69 billion USD, up 69.2%; rice 4.78 billion USD, up 38.4%, ST25 rice won the world's best champion award for the second time; cashew 3.63 billion USD, up 17.6%. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has focused on developing, submitting for promulgation and effectively implementing many important projects, programs, mechanisms and policies for industry development. The focus is on the Rural Industry Development Strategy; the Project for Sustainable Development of One Million Hectares of High-Quality Rice Cultivation; investment policies to support the improvement of livestock farming efficiency; encouraging the development of farm economy...

By the end of 2023, the whole country will have about 6,370/8,167 (78%) communes meeting new rural standards (NTM), of which 1,612 communes will meet advanced NTM standards and 256 communes will meet model NTM standards.

In 2024, the agriculture and rural development sector aims for a GDP growth rate of 3% - 3.5%, and an agricultural, forestry and fishery export turnover of 54 - 55 billion USD. The rate of communes meeting NTM standards is expected to reach 80% of the total number of communes. To achieve the above goals, the sector aims to continue to effectively and synchronously implement the tasks and solutions set out.

In 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will also accelerate the implementation, disbursement and improve the efficiency of public investment. Attract investment resources to modernize agricultural infrastructure, including fisheries infrastructure, contributing to the early removal of the "Yellow Card" for fisheries exploitation. Develop science, technology and innovation; at the same time, improve the quality of vocational training for farmers, training according to the needs of businesses and the market.

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the contribution of the agricultural sector to the overall socio-economic development achievements of the whole country in 2023. The Prime Minister emphasized that the agricultural sector has turned the situation from being "passive, surprised, confused" to "proactive, timely, creative" to remove difficulties and obstacles, overcome challenges to achieve high results.

In 2024, the Prime Minister requested the agricultural sector to focus on implementing the Strategy for Sustainable Agricultural and Rural Development, the sector restructuring plan associated with growth model innovation and new rural construction. Continue to promote restructuring towards developing ecological, modern agriculture, circular economy, especially sustainable, transparent and responsible agriculture.

Strongly shift from agricultural production thinking to agricultural economic thinking, from single-sector development to multi-sector cooperation and development, promote multi-value integration in agricultural, forestry and fishery products, shift from agricultural product supply chains to developing industry chains.
