"Every generation has a moment when it must stand up for democracy, fight for its fundamental freedoms," Biden wrote on Twitter. "I believe this is our moment. That's why I'm running for re-election as President of the United States. Join us. Let's get the job done," he added.

Still the race with Mr. Trump
After a series of major legislative victories and major foreign policy battles in his first two years in office, Mr. Biden has no real challengers in the Democratic Party.
But in what is expected to be a reunion between him and Mr Trump, the issue of age will be at the forefront.
The veteran Democratic president will be 86 at the end of his second term. Even though a medical examination in February found him “fit” to perform the duties of the presidency, many, including Democratic voters, believe he is too old.
An NBC News poll released over the weekend found that 70% of Americans, including 51% of Democrats, believe he should not run.
For the next year and a half, Mr. Biden will have all the advantages of incumbency, backed by a unified party, while the Republicans are just starting to prepare for an internal race.
Mr Trump, despite becoming the first US president to be criminally prosecuted and facing investigations into his failed attempt to overturn the 2020 election, remains the Republican Party's leading candidate.
The most likely Republican challenger to Mr Trump is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, 44.
"Rebuilding the Middle Class"
Mr Biden will underscore his foreign policy commitments on Tuesday when he meets South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, who is beginning a state visit to the White House.
As in 2020, Mr. Biden’s online messaging has framed his campaign as a fight to save American democracy from Mr. Trump and increasingly far-right Republicans.
However, he also emphasized that the economic recovery message focuses heavily on manufacturing and middle-class jobs.
Later Tuesday, he is scheduled to deliver an economic speech at a union conference in Washington.
Bland but safe?
Biden's approval rating has not exceeded 50% in more than a year and a half.
But supporters say the Democrats' surprisingly strong performance in the 2022 midterm elections has laid a solid foundation for Mr Biden.
And while Biden may appear paler than Mr Trump, he will see his moderate, classical image as a necessary secret weapon in an increasingly extreme age.
