President of the Republic of South Africa Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa was born on November 17, 1952 in South Africa. He holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of South Africa. In 1981, he served as Legal Adviser to the Council of the Union of South Africa.
He was elected Secretary General of the African National Congress (ANC) in 1991 and was elected Deputy President of the ANC in December 2012. From 2014 to 2018, he was appointed Deputy President of South Africa; serving as Special Envoy of former President Jacob Zuma to South Sudan to resolve the conflict in South Sudan.

From December 2017 to present, he has held the position of Chairman of the ANC Party. He has served as President of South Africa from February 2018 to present (re-elected in June 2024)./.
