South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa begins State visit to Vietnam

On the afternoon of October 23, President of the Republic of South Africa Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Hanoi, beginning a State visit to Vietnam from October 23-24, 2025, at the invitation of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Luong Cuong.

Welcoming the delegation at Noi Bai International Airport were: Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh; Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Justice Nguyen Hai Ninh; Deputy Head of the Office of the President Nguyen Hoang Anh; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Anh Tuan; Vietnamese Ambassador to South Africa Hoang Sy Cuong.

Accompanying the South African President were: Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ronald Ozzy Lamola; Minister of Agriculture John Henry Steenhuisen; Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs Angie Motshekga; Acting Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia; Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni; Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mmamoloko Tryphosa Kubayi; Minister of Small Business Development Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams; Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competitiveness Zuko Godlimpi; Deputy Minister of Minerals and Petroleum Phumzile Sinclatia Mgcina.

President of the Republic of South Africa Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa was born on November 17, 1952 in South Africa. He holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of South Africa. In 1981, he served as Legal Adviser to the Council of the Union of South Africa.

He was elected Secretary General of the African National Congress (ANC) in 1991 and was elected Deputy President of the ANC in December 2012. From 2014 to 2018, he was appointed Deputy President of South Africa; serving as Special Envoy of former President Jacob Zuma to South Sudan to resolve the conflict in South Sudan.

From December 2017 to present, he has held the position of Chairman of the ANC Party. He has served as President of South Africa from February 2018 to present (re-elected in June 2024)./.
