US President Donald Trump said on August 22 that he has American investors ready to buy TikTok and may further delay the deadline for Chinese company ByteDance to divest from the app in the US. The move comes just days after the White House opened an account on the short -video platform.
Speaking to reporters, the White House chief dismissed bipartisan security concerns about TikTok, saying the administration would monitor if problems arose. President Trump said privacy and national security concerns about the TikTok app were “overblown.” He said he would speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping “at the appropriate time.”
Earlier, on August 19, the White House created an official TikTok channel. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that “the administration is committed to communicating the historic successes that President Trump has brought to the American people through as many audiences and forums as possible.”
Under a law passed in 2024, TikTok was supposed to stop operating in the US by January 19 this year. However, in June, Mr. Trump extended the ban on TikTok for the third time. The extension is 90 days, until September 17./.
