On December 1, after more than 1 month of issuing regulations on extra teaching and learning and conducting statistics on students' needs, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee informed about the current situation of students' extracurricular activities as follows: Nearly 500,000 students are participating in foreign language learning, mainly English (accounting for 50%), about 10,000 students are learning other foreign languages (French, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Chinese...) at foreign language centers after regular school hours (evenings, Saturdays, Sundays).
About 100,000 primary school students (20%) are taking extra cultural classes outside of regular school hours; about 190,000 secondary school students (middle school and high school) are taking extra classes at in-school tutoring facilities and 30,000 students are taking extra classes at out-of-school tutoring facilities, mainly studying math, physics, and chemistry (35%).
