On June 19, Dr. Le Van Tuong Lan - head of training and student affairs at Hue University - said that he had completed the re-evaluation of the doctoral thesis of Ms. Le Thi An Hoa - head of the scientific research department of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center - who was accused of plagiarism.
According to Mr. Lan, after many months of reading and analysis, each member of the review board sent his report to the board chairman.
After receiving the full conclusions of each member, the council chairman compiled and sent a full report to Hue University on how many details of Ms. Hoa's doctoral thesis were plagiarized (except for 12 pages that had been previously concluded to be plagiarized).
Hue University has sent a report to the Ministry of Education and Training on the conclusion of whether Ms. Hoa's doctoral thesis was plagiarized or not, and proposed a solution.
"However, this matter needs to be reviewed and handled by the ministry according to the correct procedure, so we cannot provide the content of the conclusion at this time and must wait for a response from the Ministry of Education and Training," said Mr. Lan.
Answering the question of why the re-evaluation of this doctoral thesis took so long (more than half a year), Mr. Lan said that the re-evaluation was quite complicated, requiring members of the council to read each page of the thesis, make comments, and evaluate information, so it took a lot of time.
"After completing the conclusion, Hue University sent all the above content to report to the Ministry of Education and Training on June 16. The ministry will likely have an answer soon. After the ministry responds, we will base on that conclusion to take the next steps," said Mr. Lan.
