Ho Chi Minh City announces 3 entrance exam subjects for grade 10

The leader of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said that the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2026-2027 school year will still keep the three subjects stable, including Literature, Math and Foreign Language.

In October, the Department of Education and Training will announce the structure, assessment requirements, aptitudes, and thinking levels of the 10th grade entrance exam. The early announcement will allow teachers to develop review programs for students.

In some special areas such as Thanh An island commune, schools consider admission to grade 10 based on academic records.

According to the 10th grade admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training , localities can choose to have entrance exams, consider admission to 10th grade or a combination.

For entrance exams, the exam includes Math, Literature and a third subject (or a combination exam).

This subject is selected by the Department of Education and Training from subjects assessed by scores, including: Foreign Language 1, Civic Education , Natural Sciences, History and Geography, Technology, and Information Technology.

However, provinces and cities are not allowed to choose a subject for more than three consecutive years, starting from 2025. The announcement of the third subject will be after the end of the first semester, no later than March 31 every year.

Up to this point, Ho Chi Minh City is the earliest locality to finalize 3 entrance exam subjects for grade 10.

After the merger, Ho Chi Minh City is an educational super city with more than 3,000 schools and 2.6 million students.
