Ho Chi Minh City has recruited nearly 4,000 teachers, but is still short of 2,000 people.

At the end of the first round of teacher recruitment, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training recruited 3,908 teachers at all levels. Thus, the number of unfilled positions is nearly 2,000 teachers.

According to the Department of Education and Training, in the first round of teacher recruitment for the 2025-2026 school year, the city had 10,175 candidates, 3,908 of whom were qualified to pass.

There is still a shortage of nearly 2,000 teachers.

Phase 1 needs to recruit 5,696 teachers in all three regions: region 1 (formerly Ho Chi Minh City), region 2 (formerly Binh Duong province) and region 3 (formerly Ba Ria - Vung Tau province). Thus, the number of unfilled positions is nearly 2,000 teachers.

The subjects that are still lacking many teachers are:

Primary school team leader teachers with 185 positions (region 1 is short of 115, region 2 is short of 45 and region 3 is short of 25 positions).

Teacher in charge of the Junior High School Team 110 indicators are missing (region 1 is missing 59, region 2 is missing 35, region 3 is missing 16).

Primary school information technology and information technology teachers are short of 97 positions (region 1 is short of 69 positions, region 2 is short of 26 positions and region 3 is short of 2 positions).

Primary music teachers are short of 125 positions (region 1 is short of 76, region 2 is short of 45 and region 3 is short of 4).

Primary art teachers are short of 149 positions (region 1 is short of 86, region 2 is short of 48 and region 3 is short of 15).

History and geography 192 targets are missing (region 1 is missing 82, region 2 is missing 92, region 3 is missing 18 targets).

Secondary Technology lacks 165 targets (region 1 lacks 98, region 2 lacks 58 and region 3 lacks 9).

Secondary school civic education lacks 51 targets (region 1 lacks 13, region 2 lacks 38).

Secondary school music teachers are short of 157 positions (region 1 is short of 68, region 2 is short of 76, region 3 is short of 13).

Secondary school art teachers are short of 168 positions (region 1 is short of 98, region 2 is short of 58 and region 3 is short of 12).

Secondary School of Information Technology recruited 61/114 targets, lacking 53 teachers (region 1 lacking 26 and region 2 lacking 27).

Surprise in "hard to recruit" subject

The Department of Education and Training said that what is special about this year's teacher recruitment is that many subjects that were difficult to recruit in the past are very promising this year.

Primary school English teachers recruited 157/168, still lacking 11 in region 2; secondary school English teachers recruited 227/238, still lacking 11 (region 2 lacking 10 and region 3 lacking 1); high school English teachers recruited 47/49, still lacking 2 in region 2.

Many subjects at high school level, which are considered difficult to recruit, have recruited a large number of teachers, such as: IT teachers recruited 33/46; music recruited 5/8; fine arts recruited 4/6; physical education is currently only short of 2 teachers distributed in regions 1 and 2; national defense and security education is short of 4 teachers (region 2 is short of 1 and region 3 is short of 3).

In addition, the recruitment of primary school teachers to teach many subjects has also met 737/776 targets, still lacking 39 targets (region 2 lacks 10 and region 3 lacks 29 targets); primary school physical education teachers have met 112/127 targets, lacking 15 targets (region 2 lacks 7 and region 3 lacks 8 targets).

At the secondary level, literature recruited 282/355 teachers, 73 targets short (region 1 lacked 52, region 2 lacked 16, region 3 lacked 5); math recruited 233/255 targets, 22 targets short (region 1 lacked 8, region 2 lacked 11 and region 3 lacked 3); natural sciences recruited 219/226 targets, 7 targets short in region 2.

At high school level, geography recruited 41/46 teachers, short of 5 targets (region 1 lacked 1, region 2 lacked 4); history recruited 71/74 targets, short of 3 targets in region 1; literature recruited 76/101, short of 25 targets (region 1 lacked 14, region 2 lacked 11 targets); math recruited 62/67 targets, short of 5 targets (region 1 lacked 2, region 2 lacked 1, region 3 lacked 2).
