The program was attended by representatives of city leaders, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese - Ministry of Foreign Affairs , a number of relevant departments and units, and overseas Vietnamese delegates who have made many contributions to the construction and development of Ho Chi Minh City from 1975 to present.
On behalf of the city's leaders, Mr. Ha Phuoc Thang, Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized that Vietnam currently has about 6 million overseas Vietnamese living, working and studying in 130 countries and territories, of which about 3 million overseas Vietnamese have connections with Ho Chi Minh City.
Currently, the Vietnamese community abroad continues to develop steadily, integrating into the host society, with many people successful in the fields of science, technology, economics and culture and always looking towards the Fatherland, making great contributions to the cause of national development, preserving the cultural identity and traditions of the Vietnamese people.
Appreciating the great contributions of the overseas Vietnamese community to the city's development over the past half century, Mr. Ha Phuoc Thang praised and expressed gratitude to outstanding overseas Vietnamese individuals and the overseas Vietnamese community in general for always paying attention to, following and accompanying the city's construction and development.
With all their enthusiasm and affection, the Vietnamese community abroad has made very practical contributions to the construction and development of Ho Chi Minh City in recent times in many different forms, from knowledge, management experience to material resources, actively contributing to the development of the city during the past 50 years.
Mr. Ha Phuoc Thang said that currently, Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country are focusing on building strategies for rapid and sustainable development, towards a new era of development for the country. The city hopes that the overseas Vietnamese community, through the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, will continue to accompany, join hands and contribute with the Party Committee, government and people of the city to successfully implement the set goals, including the goal of "Soon becoming the economic, financial, service, cultural, educational-training, scientific-technological and innovation center of the region" by 2045.
Ms. Vu Thi Huynh Mai, Chairwoman of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese in Ho Chi Minh City, said that honoring 50 outstanding overseas Vietnamese individuals is an act that demonstrates the affection and concern of the City's leaders for the overseas Vietnamese community who have made many contributions to the construction and development of Ho Chi Minh City in the past time, thereby recognizing, motivating and encouraging overseas Vietnamese individuals to continue to make many contributions, dedication, and creative work in the construction and development of the country in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular in the coming time.
On this occasion, the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese in Ho Chi Minh City respectfully commended and awarded Certificates of Merit to 50 overseas Vietnamese individuals who have made many contributions to the construction and development of Ho Chi Minh City over the past 50 years.
Overseas Vietnamese individuals are honored as overseas Vietnamese (including deceased individuals) who have made positive contributions to the construction and development of Ho Chi Minh City from 1975 to present, with outstanding achievements and wide influence in labor, business, scientific research, study, charity, social security or application of science and technology...
Some outstanding individuals were honored such as Professor, Doctor Dang Luong Mo - a Vietnamese in Japan, who is known for more than 300 research projects and more than 10 inventions and patents; Mr. Johnathan Hanh Nguyen, a Vietnamese in the United States, who supported the opening of an official flight route between Vietnam and the Philippines; Dr. Vo Ta Han, a Vietnamese in the United States, with a program to donate books to universities in Vietnam, with a budget of more than 90 billion VND; Dr. Luong Bach Van, a Vietnamese in France, who contributed to the development of Ho Chi Minh City's industry, built a production line for "intrauterine devices for women," organized many specialized training courses in the Plastics industry; Mr. Nguyen Van Cong, a Vietnamese in France, who built hundreds of bridges in Ho Chi Minh City, the provinces of the Mekong Delta, the Central region, and the Central Highlands, contributing to improving the quality of life for local people...
The Ho Chi Minh City Committee for Overseas Vietnamese has honored and posthumously awarded Certificates of Merit to four overseas Vietnamese individuals: Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha, a Vietnamese in France; Dr. Nguyen Tri Dung, a Vietnamese in Japan; Dr. Nguyen Chanh Khe, a Vietnamese in the United States; and Dr. Do Tan Si, a Vietnamese in Belgium./.
