Ho Chi Minh City begins 10th grade entrance exam

This morning, May 25, nearly 4,000 9th graders took the first 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City at 3 testing locations organized by the Gifted High School, Ho Chi Minh City National University. The exam will take place over 2 days, May 25 and 26.

The total number of candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam this year is 3,853, including 9th graders in Ho Chi Minh City and 9th graders from other provinces and cities.

According to Mr. Tran Vu, Vice Principal of the Gifted High School, the number of candidates this year increased by about 24% compared to last year (in 2023, there were 3,092 candidates registering for the 10th grade entrance exam). Because the total quota remains unchanged, the competition (ie the "competition" rate) will be higher than last year. Especially for the group of candidates applying for English, math and literature majors. Meanwhile, the number of candidates registering for specialized subjects such as biology, information technology... is much lower.

Specifically, the number of candidates registering for 10th grade English major is the highest: 1,330 students. Next is math major: 1,132 students, literature major: 672, chemistry major: 518, physics major: 385, information technology major: 252, biology major: 227 students.

In the 2024-2025 school year, the total enrollment target for the Gifted High School is 595 students. Of which, at the District 5 campus, 245 students will be recruited for 7 specialized 10th grade classes: Math, IT, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature, and English.

Thu Duc campus (in the urban area of Ho Chi Minh City National University) recruits 350 students into 10 specialized classes oriented towards interdisciplinary fields: Mathematics-interdisciplinary, Information Technology-interdisciplinary, Physics-interdisciplinary, Chemistry-interdisciplinary, Biology-interdisciplinary, English-interdisciplinary and Literature-interdisciplinary.

It is known that the entrance exam for grade 10 of the Gifted High School was held nearly 2 weeks earlier than the general exam of other high schools in Ho Chi Minh City. Accordingly, the general exam schedule of other high schools is 2 days, June 6 and 7.
