Ho Chi Minh City records 79 Covid-19 cases

As of May 18, Ho Chi Minh City recorded 79 Covid-19 cases. Although the number of Covid-19 cases is much lower than the same period last year, it has increased sharply in recent weeks.

On May 22, the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the City Party Committee coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City to hold a press conference to provide information on socio -economic issues in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ms. Le Hong Nga, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control, informed that the Board of Directors of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health chaired a meeting with a number of hospitals and infectious disease experts to assess the Covid-19 situation in Ho Chi Minh City.

As of May 18, Ho Chi Minh City had 79 Covid-19 cases. Although the number of Covid-19 cases is much lower than the same period last year, the number of cases has recently increased. The Department of Health stated that the Omicron XEC strain is not a new variant, it has been discovered by countries around the world since 2024 and is classified as a low-risk variant.

However, in the face of the unpredictable developments of the Covid-19 epidemic situation in the world, in order to respond to the epidemic and promptly handle severe cases, the Department of Health has given specific instructions to its affiliated units.

In particular, medical examination and treatment facilities in Ho Chi Minh City are required to be proactive in Covid-19 prevention and control. At the same time, they must update their Covid-19 admission and treatment plans, ensure adequate human resources, medicines and equipment. Units need to retrain professionals, strengthen infection control and protect high-risk groups.
