Ho Chi Minh City supports 4 billion VND to bring C-119 aircraft to Ta Con airport

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí09/10/2024

(Dan Tri) - In order to promote the value of historical relics, Ho Chi Minh City decided to support Quang Tri with 4 billion VND to bring a C-119 aircraft from Dong Nai to display at the National Historical Relic of Ta Con Airport.
On the afternoon of October 8, the leader of the Quang Tri Monuments and Museums Management Center informed that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has decided to support 4 billion VND to repair, restore, disassemble and transport the C-119 aircraft from Bien Hoa city (Dong Nai) to install and display at the National Historical Site of Ta Con Airport (Quang Tri). The C-119 is a war vehicle of the US army, which fought on the Truong Son road - Ho Chi Minh road. This is a valuable historical display, especially in the context of Quang Tri province moving towards building a war relics museum in the 2026-2030 period.

In May 2016, the above aircraft was granted by the Ministry of National Defense to Quang Tri province as an exhibit. However, due to budget constraints, the transfer of the C-119 to the Ta Con Airport National Historical Site was delayed many times. Ta Con Airport is located in Tan Hop commune, Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province, and was one of the strategic military bases of the US army in the years 1966-1968 at Khe Sanh battlefield, Quang Tri. At the same time, it is also the place that marks the glorious achievements of the Vietnam People's Army in the resistance war against the US. Currently, the Ta Con Airport relic has a C-130 heavy transport aircraft of the US army. This aircraft fought in the Khe Sanh - Ta Con battlefield nearly 60 years ago. Mr. Nguyen Quang Chuc, Director of the Quang Tri Museum and Relic Management Center, said that having an additional large-sized aircraft like the C-119 will increase the number of artifacts, creating a true military airport space in Ta Con.
