Ho Chi Minh City cooperates with WEF, entering a new phase of smart manufacturing

(Dan Tri) - WEF affirmed that it will accompany Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City in the goal of promoting sustainable growth and consolidating the city's position in the global economy.

On the afternoon of November 26, at the Autumn Economic Forum 2025, Ho Chi Minh City and the World Economic Forum (WEF) held a ceremony to announce the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation in implementing the Initiative to Promote Smart Manufacturing and Responsible Industrial Transformation in Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam.

The MOU signing ceremony was witnessed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha; Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang. The presence of high-ranking leaders affirms Vietnam's strong commitment to the process of renewing the growth model, applying technology and deeply integrating into the global value chain.

This event opens a new phase of cooperation in the field of the fourth industrial revolution, smart manufacturing and sustainable development.

The content of the cooperation aims to promote an open ecosystem platform, initiatives to promote smart manufacturing and responsible industrial transformation in Ho Chi Minh City, thereby contributing to the development of the Lighthouse Operating System (Lighthouse OS) globally; supporting smart manufacturing strategies and pilot implementation in Ho Chi Minh City through practical tools, implementing capacity building activities and knowledge sharing.

Lighthouse OS is an open source framework designed to integrate best practices in industrial operations with digital and sustainability principles to drive responsible industrial transformation. Lighthouse OS is born from the World Economic Forum (WEF) initiative of the Global Lighthouse Network and aims to help manufacturing organizations effectively adopt advanced technologies, improve operational efficiency, increase agility, and develop sustainably.

Under the authorization of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and WEF, the Ho Chi Minh City Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (HCMC C4IR) and the World Economic Forum's Advanced Manufacturing and Supply Chain Center (AMSC) are coordinating to develop plans and implement activities under the Lighthouse OS initiative in Vietnam.

WEF President: Vietnam is a "country with strong resilience"

Immediately after the ceremony, via video, Mr. Børge Brende - President of the World Economic Forum gave a congratulatory speech on the signing event and the Autumn Economic Forum 2025.

Mr. Børge Brende assessed Vietnam as a “country with strong resilience”, possessing an increasingly qualified workforce and a rapidly developing innovation ecosystem. He emphasized Vietnam’s role in the global value network and affirmed that the world is “closely interested” in Vietnam’s development process.

The WEF President said the MOU with Ho Chi Minh City will open a new chapter in cooperation on smart manufacturing, industrial transformation and the application of cutting-edge technology. The two sides will jointly promote piloting new technologies, build flexible policy frameworks and ensure the benefits of innovation are spread throughout society.
