This is the number of times the investor has broken his promise, people cannot remember all of them. The promises and commitments about this project are just empty words. Let me briefly review some milestones of the project.
Metro Line 1 was approved in 2007 with a total capital of over 17,000 billion VND. Construction began in August 2012 and is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2018.
In 2019, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approved project adjustments, increasing the total investment to more than VND 43,700 billion and delaying the completion and commercial exploitation schedule to the fourth quarter of 2021.
The project then continued to be delayed and in April 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee adjusted the construction completion time to the end of the fourth quarter of 2023.
But, with the eternal "but", MAUR said that to put Metro Line 1 into commercial operation, it is necessary to continue to carry out many tasks from the beginning of 2024.
That means, in 2024, we will continue to implement this project, there are still many unfinished tasks that need to be completed. What work and when it will be completed, only God knows.
Recently, news related to Metro Line 1 has made people happy. It has completed nearly 96.5% of the total volume, and the entire line was tested at the end of August. The press reported on the test run with a happy atmosphere, people hope that Metro Line 1 is ready to "roll".
But all are just "illustrative" images. Until now, people are waiting for a real Metro running, not a test run.
Every day, on the route from Ben Thanh to Suoi Tien, tens of thousands of people travel by personal vehicles. They need a modern, safe, clean, convenient alternative to public transport. People do not want to take the Metro on TV or in the newspapers.
The government has called on people to limit personal vehicles and use public transport, but public transport in the country's largest city is just old buses.
According to the Prime Minister 's approval decision, Metro Line 1 is scheduled to be completed by the end of the fourth quarter of 2023. The project completion date is from 2024 to 2028, including the contractor's warranty period from 2024 to the end of 2025 and the operation and maintenance support period from 2024 to the end of 2028. Now, MAUR is helpless to implement the above roadmap.
People are not interested in test runs, in terms and far-fetched concepts, but ask HCMC and MAUR to answer when the "train will run"?
