On the morning of July 29, Ms. Le Thi Hoai Chung - Director of Nghe An Department of Health - said that in the face of the situation where My Ly commune health station was swept away by flood, the Department requested Ky Son Health Center to urgently set up a field health station to examine and treat people.

Nghe An Department of Health has also transferred medicine, some essential equipment and necessary supplies to the field medical station to examine and treat people after the flood.

My Ly is one of the communes most severely damaged by the recent floods in Nghe An province. About 160 houses were completely swept away, 184 houses were flooded, and many offices, medical stations, schools, etc. were swept away and damaged.

My Ly commune has about 1,247 households and nearly 6,000 people. Because this place is nearly 70km from the district center, people often use medical services at the commune station. Near My Ly commune, there are Muong Tip and Muong Ai medical stations, but they are isolated and cannot operate normally.

"The commune health station, along with all its medicines and equipment, was completely swept away by the flood, disrupting medical examination and treatment for people. Some people were cut by sharp objects while running away from the flood or cleaning their houses after the flood, causing infections or some digestive and skin diseases...", informed Dr. Kha Hong Ky, head of the My Ly commune health station.

Mr. Sam Van Hai - Director of Ky Son Medical Center - said that immediately after opening the road to My Ly commune, the unit transported medicine and essential equipment to the field medical station to serve the medical examination and treatment of the people.

"For now, we have sent two more doctors to My Ly. Necessary medicines after the flood such as antibiotics, pain relievers, fever reducers, and antiseptic solutions have also been transported to distribute to people," said Mr. Hai.

The My Ly field medical station was temporarily set up in the yard of a resident's house in Xieng Tam village, about 40 square meters wide.

Previously, the Border Guard Command of Nghe An province also mobilized military doctors to My Ly commune to examine and provide free medicine related to digestive diseases, skin diseases, and flu to the people. Priority was given to the elderly, children, and people with underlying diseases.

In addition, military doctors also propagate and guide people to take measures to prevent and avoid outbreaks and spread of diseases after floods.

At Tuong Duong Medical Center, the Lam River floodwaters suddenly rose in the early morning of July 23, submerging the entire first floor of the center. The center only had time to evacuate about 140 patients being treated there. Much equipment was buried and swept away by the muddy water.

Doctor Vy Xuan Chien - director of Tuong Duong Medical Center - said that due to being deeply submerged in water, the center suffered very heavy damage to machinery, equipment, medicine, and medical supplies that cannot be fully counted yet.

Inspecting the flood recovery work at medical facilities heavily affected by the flood of storm No. 3, Ms. Le Thi Hoai Chung - Director of Nghe An Department of Health - requested units to promptly overcome the damage and stabilize medical examination and treatment for people.

To ensure the right to medical examination and treatment for people in the mountainous area of Ky Son district (old), Ms. Chung directed the Southwest Regional General Hospital to dispatch two ambulances to stand by in Tuong Duong to transfer patients to Ky Son for treatment, in the context that the center could not operate yet.
