The tournament took place from October 1 to 3, gathering 36 players. Among them, the best players of 3-cushion carom billiards in Vietnam such as Tran Quyet Chien, Tran Thanh Luc, Tran Duc Minh, Bao Phuong Vinh, Chiem Hong Thai... all participated to compete for the championship worth 50 million VND. On the opening day, 36 players were divided into 12 groups (3 people each), competing in a round robin to calculate ranking points. The first and second place players in each group will advance.
Many interesting developments appeared on the first day of competition. The current world runner-up 2024 (the tournament just ended in Binh Thuan ) Tran Thanh Luc showed that he is in impressive form, when he quickly launched a series of 14 points and won against Le Van Thai with a score of 40-17, after only 13 turns (3,077 points/turn). Tran Thanh Luc temporarily took the lead in both awards: best series of the tournament and best game (with the highest score/turn). Before that, Thanh Luc defeated Dinh The Vinh in the opening match, thereby winning the ticket to continue with the top position in Group H.
Tran Quyet Chien made amends when he won the second match to move on.
Notably, in Group J, Tran Quyet Chien unexpectedly lost 37-40 to Nguyen Ngoc Tri in the opening match. However, Vietnam's number 1 player regained his form and won 40-17 (after 22 turns) against Pham Ngoc Tan. With 1 win, Tran Quyet Chien "escaped", taking the ticket to the next round with the second place in Group J.
In Group K, Bao Phuong Vinh won the ticket to the next round in a thrilling scenario. In the final match of Group K, Bao Phuong Vinh and Nguyen Nhat Hoa faced each other to compete for the ticket to the next round, when both had lost to Tran Tien Phong before. With a 40-40 draw after 26 shots, Phuong Vinh (sub-index of 1.276 points/shot) won the right to go on when he had a better scoring efficiency than Nhat Hoa (sub-index of 1.215 points/shot).
Bao Phuong Vinh advanced spectacularly with only one draw, and bettered his opponent in scoring efficiency (points/turn).
Although they did not show their best performance on the opening day, players who were considered candidates for the championship such as Tran Duc Minh, Dao Van Ly... all advanced. In addition, many other players such as Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu, Chiem Hong Thai, Nguyen Thai Khuong, Nguyen Ngoc Tri, Pham Quoc Thuan, Nguyen Dinh Quoc, Ngo Le Duy and Van Hoang Ba all had 2 wins and entered the next round.
The competition day on October 2 promises to be even more exciting and full of surprises. In the second round (40-point touch, same turn), 24 players are divided into 8 groups (3 players each), competing in a round-robin to calculate ranking points. The first and second place players in each group will advance to the next round. The round of 16 will be played in a knockout format on the same evening (October 2).
