Thao Hoang orchid farm, Hiep Thanh commune, Duc Trong district is a famous orchid farm specializing in growing two main lines: Phalaenopsis orchids and Dancing Lady orchids. Phalaenopsis orchids, with many large-scale farms, have become a familiar orchid species to flower lovers. But few people know that the Dancing Lady orchids of Thao Hoang farm are being cared for with a very special process.
Mr. Bui Van Luat, a technician at Thao Hoang orchid farm, said that the farm has been growing dancing orchids for many years. Unlike Phalaenopsis orchids with a short life cycle, dancing orchids are both simple to care for and have their own unique characteristics, with a fairly long life cycle. According to Mr. Luat, Thao Hoang farm imports tissue culture directly from Taiwan. After importing the culture, the tissue culture plants are grown for four months in small plastic pots with coconut husk or crushed stone. After four months, the plants grow a few more leaves and shoots are taller, and orchid growers begin to move them to larger pots with a special process: growing on rocks. The 1x2 rocks are thoroughly washed, sterilized, dried, and then filled into the plastic pots. Dancing orchids are planted directly on the rocks, and the care regimen only includes watering and foliar fertilization. After two months, when the orchid shoots begin to take root, growers begin to fertilize. Mr. Luat said: “When the dancing lady orchid is young and has not yet grown roots, we only use foliar fertilizer. After the plant has grown roots, we give each plant a packet of slow-release fertilizer packaged in the specified size. The slow-release fertilizer is enough to provide the orchid with nutrients for five to six months and no additional fertilizer is needed. Dancing lady orchids are easy to care for.”
Mr. Bui Van Luat said that if Phalaenopsis orchids are harvested after only four months of planting, the dancing orchid needs two years to start flowering. In the seedling stage, dancing orchids are grown in greenhouses, shaded from the sun, wind and watered proactively. When the plants have enough roots, they are transferred to a net house with simpler care, cool temperature, ventilation, using mainly rainwater. Before two years, the flower buds will be cut to preserve the mother plant's strength. When the plant is mature and has flower buds, after one or two months, the flower branches can reach a height of 40 to 50 cm, which is suitable for harvesting. Dancing orchids are often cut to supply the market, one orchid root each year can produce 2-3 batches of flowers. The life cycle of dancing orchids is up to 6 years, planted for one year and cut flowers continuously, only when the plant is old, the flowers are short and ugly must a new batch of orchids be replaced.
The dancing orchid needs very little care. Because it lives on rocks, its roots are airy, so its roots are very strong. With the use of packaged slow-release fertilizers and foliar fertilizer systems, low water requirements, mainly using rainwater, mist and cool temperatures, the orchid has very good vitality.

The orchid is easy to care for, and the cut flowers are very durable. Thao Hoang farm grows dancing orchids to have a regular supply of flowers for the market. In addition to the traditional cut yellow dancing orchid, Thao Hoang farm also grows some new types of dancing orchids such as fragrant dancing orchids, dancing orchids in many colors such as pink, purple, white, etc. These new varieties of dancing orchids will provide the market with more beautiful colors, giving flower lovers more choices. Mr. Thu commented: “Dancing orchids are grown in greenhouses, with low investment and little care, suitable for growing cut flowers to regularly supply the market. The climate of Don Duong, Duc Trong, Di Linh, Lam Ha is very suitable for dancing orchids due to suitable temperature, humidity, and light. Lam Dong is a famous dancing orchid area and provides beautiful dancing orchid branches in the Vietnamese flower village”. Currently, Duc Trong is a famous orchid growing area with orchid farmers growing orchids in association, providing orchid branches for export. Thao Hoang orchid farm, with orchid branches grown on rocks, is contributing more beautiful orchid branches to the orchid market.
