Solemnly held the Royal Thai Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony at Viet Nam Quoc Tu Pagoda

On the afternoon of November 1, at the Vietnam National Pagoda (Ho Chi Minh City), the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated with the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Ho Chi Minh City to organize the Royal Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony in a solemn atmosphere. The event affirmed the friendly relationship, cultural exchange and spiritual connection between the Buddhist communities of Vietnam and Thailand, contributing to strengthening the friendship between the people of the two countries.

The Royal Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony is a traditional ceremony of special significance in Theravada Buddhism, sponsored and maintained annually by the Thai Royal Family in many countries with Buddhist communities. This is the 18th year this ceremony has been held in Vietnam, marking a milestone in the close cooperation and religious exchange between the two countries.

The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Wichawat Isarapakdee, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. He was authorized by the Thai Royal Family to invite and offer Kathina robes, offerings, and funds to support the pagoda's renovation. Attending the ceremony were representatives of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, diplomatic agencies, and a large number of monks, nuns, and Buddhists.

During the ceremony, the master of ceremonies invited the Kathina robe to the main hall, offered incense, and recited the traditional offering prayer. Afterwards, the Kathina robe, Paṭimokkha candle, and accompanying items were solemnly offered to the Venerables. Delegates and Buddhists took turns offering money and goods, contributing to support the living and studying of the Sangha.

Not only a religious ritual, the Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony also symbolizes the spirit of sharing and solidarity in the international Buddhist community. The ceremony ends with a chanting of prayers for national peace and prosperity, wishing for peace , friendship and sustainable development between the two countries.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vietnamese representative assessed that the Thai Royal Kathina offering not only has religious value but also contributes to promoting humanitarian cooperation, cultural exchange and strengthening the long-term friendship between the people of the two countries.

This year, the Royal Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony is also part of the activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand in eight countries with Buddhist communities, including India, Myanmar, Malaysia, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Laos, China and Vietnam. Over the past three decades, the Thai Government has organized more than 190 Kathina Robe Offering ceremonies in 13 countries, as a bridge to spread the message of peace and compassion of Buddhism.

This year's Royal Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony at Vietnam National Temple ended in a solemn atmosphere, imbued with Buddhist sentiment, contributing to strengthening the people-to-people friendship and the long-standing bond between the two Buddhist cultures of Vietnam and Thailand.
