Although taking place at a time when the Vietnamese art market was somewhat gloomy, the auction received special attention, the atmosphere of the auction was lively and ended with a total of 132/168 lots successfully hammered (accounting for 78.6%).

The work “Countryside Scenery” by artist Le Quoc Loc received special attention with many quick bids across channels and reached a price of 480,000 USD. This is a record transaction price for a work to date at Le Auction House.

Previously, the painting “Countryside Scenery” was the highlight of the auction, with the highest estimated price of the session, from 200,000 to 300,000 USD. Experts said that this work could be sold for 400,000 USD (more than 10 billion VND), however, the hammer price exceeded all predictions.

Prior to the auction, Le Auction House also held an exhibition of the paintings that were put up for auction. Although only on display for a short time, the exhibition attracted a large audience and the collector community.

At the exhibition, the public had the opportunity to admire the works of many artists from many periods, from Indochina paintings, resistance paintings, to contemporary paintings, and covering all three regions of the North, Central and South.

The painting “Countryside Scenery” is presented in the form of a lacquered wooden cabinet, measuring 131.5 x 94.5 x 51.8 cm. Viewed from above, extending to a wide landscape, the work brings the peaceful atmosphere of a village next to a mountainside. The late artist chose a traditional color palette, painted large but did not neglect to describe small and soulful details. The overall painting seems dynamic, using the technique of overlapping multiple layers of paint to create depth.
