Implementing the project of co-management of aquatic resources associated with tourism development

DTO - Recently, in Tan Thanh commune, the Farmers' Association of Dong Thap province organized the implementation of the Project "Improving management capacity, creating livelihoods for people participating in the co-management model in protecting aquatic resources associated with tourism development in Dong Thap province" (referred to as the Project). Attending were Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Phuong - Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association; representatives of local leaders, Community Groups and households participating in the Project.


Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Phuong - Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association spoke at the conference.

Accordingly, the Project funded by the Global Environment Facility is implemented in the communes and wards of Tan Thanh, My Hiep, Phu Tho , Hong Ngu, Cao Lanh, with a budget of 1,140,300,000 VND. The project is received by the locality and implemented specific activities in Community Groups, Associations and people participating in the implementation associated with the protection of aquatic resources according to the provisions of the Law on Fisheries 2017.

Participating in the Project, groups and members will be trained in management, operation and tourism skills; supported with nets and net materials, fishing gear to carry out fish storage livelihoods during the flood season; supported with boats, engines and life jackets for Community Groups to carry out patrolling tasks to protect aquatic resources and take advantage of means of transporting tourists; built 2 models of fish storage points during the flood season; supported in exploiting aquatic products combined with aquaculture by releasing more fish fry into the water or planting aquatic plants such as lotus, water mimosa, etc. combined with experiential tourism.

Speaking at the launch, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Phuong - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association emphasized the role of the people in exploiting and protecting aquatic resources. At the same time, she affirmed that the Project not only contributes to the conservation and development of natural resources but also opens up a new direction in developing the community economy associated with protecting the ecological environment.

It is known that in Tan Thanh commune, the Project will be implemented at Cooperative Group No. 7 (in Hamlet 4) with 54 members, the implementation area is 663 hectares. The group is responsible for protecting and exploiting aquatic resources, combining aquaculture and other activities according to the law to increase income for members participating in the group; organizing patrols, preventing illegal fishing cases, contributing to protecting the ecological environment, developing aquatic resources.
