According to the VNA correspondent in the Russian Federation, within the framework of Vietnam Week in St. Petersburg, the Russian Federation (May 19-23, 2025), on the occasion of the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh , on May 19, at the National House in St. Petersburg, the opening ceremony of an exhibition of paintings about Vietnam by the late artist Tuman Zhumabaev, with the theme "We are on the same planet."
The event was attended by representatives of the St. Petersburg city government, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee Tran Quoc Cuong; Vietnamese Ambassador to the Russian Federation Dang Minh Khoi; Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Nguyen Pham Duy Trang; Member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Chairman of the Union of Vietnamese Organizations in the Russian Federation Do Xuan Hoang, along with a large number of Vietnamese people living and working in the Russian Federation and Russian friends who love the country and people of Vietnam.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, First Vice Chairman of the St. Petersburg Committee on Inter-ethnic Cooperation and Migration Policy Aleksey Silkin warmly welcomed the Vietnamese delegation to the House of Ethnicities, affirming that the St. Petersburg city government considers Vietnam a priority direction in its foreign policy.
Mr. Silkin expressed his joy and honor to see General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam and his wife present at Red Square during the parade celebrating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War on May 9, thereby showing that the Vietnam-Russia relationship is sustainable and always develops in any favorable or difficult circumstances.
Mr. Silkin announced the opening of the exhibition of paintings by artist Tuman Zhumabaev, a son of the Soviet Union. His legacy is his works about life, culture, and people of many different countries and ethnic groups, and one of the inspirations for his works is Vietnam and the leader Ho Chi Minh of the Vietnamese people.

For his part, Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi expressed his honor to participate in the exhibition of artist Tuman Zhumabaev, who has visited Vietnam many times and has many beautiful works about Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh.
Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi affirmed that the painting exhibition took place at a very special time and place - the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday and Petrograd, now St. Petersburg, was the first place in Russia that President Ho Chi Minh set foot on June 30, 1923 on his journey to find a way to save the country.
The Ambassador thanked the wife of the late artist Tuman Zhumabaev for her efforts in preserving the precious paintings and hoped that these works would continue to be exhibited in Moscow and Vietnam.
Speaking to VNA reporters on the sidelines of the event, artist Tuman Zhumabaev's wife, Zhana Zhumabaeva, said the artist's love for the country and people of Vietnam originated from a Vietnamese friend who studied at the same Academy of Arts named Nguyen Giang.
After graduating, this friend invited artist Tuman to return to Vietnam and gradually his love for the country and Vietnamese people grew, making the artist decide to come to Vietnam 24 times during the period 2002-2020 to create artworks displayed at the exhibition.
Meanwhile, Ms. Ludmila Ivanovna, Artistic Director of the exhibition “We are on one planet” affirmed that Tuman Zhumabaev is a wonderful creative artist, with admirable working energy.
According to Ms. Ludmila Ivanovna, the Lotus - a simple but noble flower, like the great leader of the Vietnamese people, is the most unique creative theme of artist Tuman Zhumabaev about Vietnam.
The exhibition “We are on the same planet” displays dozens of paintings on the theme of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh. The paintings with the typical beauty of the Vietnamese countryside clearly show the author’s great love for the country and its people.
Artist Tuman Israilovich Zhumabaev was born on March 10, 1962 in the Kyrgyz Republic of the Soviet Union and died on August 7, 2020 in St. Petersburg.
From 1981-1985 he studied at the Leningrad Academy of Arts named after VA Serova. Since 2002 he has been a member of the St. Petersburg Union of Artists.
Paintings by artist Tuman Zhumabaev have been exhibited in many countries around the world, including Russia, Vietnam, the US, France, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Australia, Iran, and China./.
