Accordingly, 5 subjects were arrested and prosecuted by the Investigation Police Agency of Kien Giang Province Police, including: Van The Su (nicknamed Cop Bai Bon, 35 years old), Huynh Van Lam (39 years old), Ly Minh Thuong (37 years old), Le Quoc Thanh (nicknamed Thanh "Gai", 45 years old), all residing in Bai Bon Hamlet, Ham Ninh Commune, Phu Quoc City (Kien Giang) and Vu Minh Hieu (26 years old), residing in Da Chong Hamlet, Bai Thom Commune, Phu Quoc City to investigate the act of murder.

According to the police investigation, Van The Su, nicknamed Cop Bai Bon, and Huynh Van Lam are the two leaders of a gang that specializes in organizing gambling activities in the form of cockfighting, dice shaking, and resolving land disputes in Ham Ninh commune, Phu Quoc city.

Recently, this gang, consisting of people from many localities, gathered together at a boarding house in Bai Bon hamlet, Ham Ninh commune. The people were very reckless and daring, always prepared weapons to resolve conflicts with other gangs, often committing illegal acts, causing insecurity, disorder, confusion, and anxiety for local people.

The subjects were arrested.

Typically, in October 2022, Vu Minh Hieu - a close junior of Van The Su had a conflict, beating a 14-year-old boy living in Ham Ninh commune. On October 8, 2022, the family of the 14-year-old boy went to Hieu's boarding house to talk. While the two sides were arguing, it led to a scuffle and fight. The family of the boy called more people in a 7-seater car, bringing homemade knives.

Not to be bullied right on their “home turf”, Van The Su’s group immediately took out knives and sticks to fight back. Van The Su used a truck to drive straight into the opposing group, causing one person to fall down, falling to the side of the road and was immediately slashed many times by Vu Minh Hieu and his accomplices with knives and smashing the opposing group’s car…

Colonel Diep Van The added that recently, Kien Giang Provincial Police have closely coordinated with the Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security and related units and agencies to resolutely attack, suppress, and handle all types of crimes, especially gang crimes, protection of social evils, occupation, and land disputes in Phu Quoc. The social order situation in Phu Quoc City is gradually being reduced, and the people are supportive.
