Performing new compositions for traditional instruments

According to information from the Goethe Institute Hanoi, the performance program “TRAIECT IV VIETNAM” - New compositions for traditional Asian instruments and electronic music, with the participation of 2 Vietnamese traditional music artists, will take place at 7:30 p.m. on January 20, at the Hang Buom Cultural Center (22 Hang Buom, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi).

“TRAIECT IV VIETNAM” is part of the international event series called “TRAIECT” (Traditional Asian Instruments and Electronics) of the Hanover New Music Association, in cooperation with the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media, organized by the Federal Cultural Foundation, the Lower Saxony Foundation and the city of Hanover (Germany).

Two artists Ngo Tra My (mono) and Vu Thi Thuy Linh (singing a dao) will perform in the program.

This is the fourth edition of the event series, focusing on traditional Vietnamese music with the participation of monochord artist Ngo Tra My and a dao (or ca tru) singer Vu Thi Thuy Linh, both lecturers at the Vietnam National Academy of Music.

During the concert, the two artists will perform seven new works by composers from Colombia, England, Italy, Germany, Iran and Vietnam, composed specifically for the monochord and a dao singing combined or in dialogue with electronic music.

These are “Đốm” (Lương Huệ Trinh) for island singing, experimental voice, đàn bầu, electronic music and video ; “Begegnung/Encounter” (James Anderson) for đàn bầu and electronic music; “This Blurred Abyss” (Michele Abondano) for voice, objects, đàn bầu with sound amplification and four-channel electronic music; “Tà thanh thiên” (Emanuele Grossi) for a dao singing with clappers, two actors with microphone and electronic music; “Normal Things and Daily Stories” (Julia Mihály) for đàn bầu, electronic music, tape and video; “Nàng” (Hà Thúy Hằng) for voice, đàn bầu, objects, electronic music and video; “Des anderen” (Ehsan Khatibi) for voice, four metal plates and electronic music.

These tracks represent the project's attempt to bring a new dimension to listening to traditional Asian instruments.
