It's hot as a frying pan, Da Nang parents are upset because the school doesn't turn on the air conditioner for the children.

TPO - "The weather has been terrible for the past few days, almost 40 degrees every day, yet at noon the entire class of dozens of children cannot sleep with the air conditioner on. When my child comes home from school, he keeps complaining about being hot and itchy and refuses to go to class anymore," said Ms. M., whose child studies at Sao Mai Kindergarten (Cau Do - Tuy Loan Street, Cam Le Ward, Da Nang City).

Ms. M. (Cam Le ward) said that for many days her child complained that it was too hot to go to school, especially at noon, and the classroom did not have air conditioning, making it stuffy and itchy and unable to sleep. “I saw that the school had air conditioning installed, so I thought that when it was hot, the teachers would turn it on, at least during the children's nap time. Now I know that it has not been turned on for a long time. When I asked, the teachers replied that because the school had not been approved to collect additional electricity for air conditioning on top of the children's surcharge, they could not turn it on,” Ms. M. shared.

Many other parents also feel sorry for their children because the weather in Da Nang these past few days has been like a frying pan, adults can't stand it, let alone children. Some parents have suggested that they could pay extra for electricity so that the school can turn on the air conditioning for the children, but the school has not agreed, on the grounds that such a charge is against regulations.

Speaking to Tien Phong, Ms. Dinh Thi Ha, Principal of Sao Mai Kindergarten, said that the school has two campuses, the campus on Cau Do - Tuy Loan Street has more than 10 classrooms. Currently, 4 classrooms have air conditioners installed, the remaining classrooms have not been installed due to limited funding. For many years, these air conditioners have also been "covered".

According to her, the school does not turn on air conditioning for the children first of all because of unequal benefits. Studying at the same school, paying the same amount of money, one class cannot have air conditioning while another class has to endure the heat, this creates unfairness.

Second, according to Resolution 98 of the City People's Council, there is no additional revenue to pay for air conditioning electricity.

“Many parents are willing to pay extra for electricity so that the school can turn on the air conditioner so that their children can sleep cooler, but according to regulations, the school is not allowed to collect this amount. The school is also very anxious and wants to have air conditioners in all classrooms to keep the children cool, especially on days when the weather is too harsh,” Ms. Ha said.

Currently, the school has proposed to the ward and the Department of Education and Training to install air conditioners in all classrooms, and can collect additional money to pay for air conditioning electricity.
