Growing Ganoderma mushrooms – a new direction for farmers

Việt NamViệt Nam03/12/2023

Aiming to diversify industries, opening up new directions for agricultural economic development. Besides taking advantage of time and idle labor, without having to depend on seasons to create more jobs, increase income for people...

The Center for Information and Application of Science and Technology Advances – Department of Science and Technology of Binh Thuan cooperated with the People’s Committee of La Gi town to build a model of growing lingzhi mushrooms, straw mushrooms and producing organic fertilizer from mushroom growing substrate. Mr. Nguyen Tuan Phuong’s household – Hiep Phu village, Tan Tien commune was selected to experiment with the model.

Investing in a 40 m2 mushroom farm for 4,000 mushroom spawn bags, with a total cost of nearly 165 million VND. Of which, Mr. Tuan received 112 million VND from the local budget, and his family invested nearly 53 million VND. Actual planting shows that the spawn bags produce mushrooms at a high rate, about 98%. The work of growing Ganoderma mushrooms is quite simple. In the mycelium incubation stage, growers are not allowed to water, and transportation is limited as much as possible. During the mycelium growth process, if the bag is found to be infected, it must be removed immediately and the cause must be found and fixed. From the 15th to 20th day, remove the cotton plug for the mushrooms to grow. At this stage, growers need to follow technical requirements. And when the mushroom fruiting bodies begin to grow, in addition to creating air humidity, growers can spray light mist on the mushroom bags 5-7 times a day. Such care is maintained until harvest.

A period of planting, caring for and harvesting Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms lasts from 50 to 60 days. The total output of Mr. Tuan's family is estimated to reach 210 kg of fresh mushrooms, equivalent to 70 kg of dried mushrooms. After the harvest, growers can also take advantage of the sawdust from used mushroom spawn bags to continue producing some by-products such as straw mushrooms and organic fertilizers. With a total profit of over 20 million VND from the main product of Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms and by-products, Ganoderma lucidum cultivation can be a choice for a new investment direction for La Gi people because of the many advantages that the model brings.

Choosing to use clean, safe, and healthy products is gradually becoming a trend today. Grasping this practical requirement, La Gi town is focusing on transforming the structure of crops and livestock to bring high economic efficiency, adapt to changes in climate, consumer demand as well as protect the environment sustainably...
