China-ASEAN hold third round of negotiations on ACFTA version 3.0

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen emphasized that ACFTA version 3.0 will further upgrade the comprehensive strategic partnership between ASEAN and China.

On June 25, the opening ceremony of the third round of negotiations on the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA) version 3.0 was held in Kunming, capital of Yunnan Province, Southwest China.

China's Ministry of Commerce said about 370 officials from relevant departments of China and countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), as well as the ASEAN Secretariat, attended the talks, which lasted from June 24 to 27.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen emphasized that ACFTA version 3.0 will further upgrade the comprehensive strategic partnership between ASEAN and China.

The two sides will strive to strengthen cooperation in areas such as digital economy , green economy, as well as supply and industrial chains, to promote bilateral trade and economic relations, as well as regional economic integration.

According to Mr. Wang Shouwen, China is willing to cooperate with ASEAN countries to promote the level of open cooperation in ACFTA version 3.0, as well as build an inclusive, modern, comprehensive and mutually beneficial agreement.

The construction of the China-ASEAN free trade area was launched in 2000.

By 2010, version 1.0 was officially launched after 10 years of construction, with more than 90% of taxable items of both sides enjoying zero tariffs in trade in goods.

ACFTA was officially upgraded to version 2.0 in 2019. At the ASEAN-China Summit held in November 2022, the two sides announced the launch of negotiations to upgrade ACFTA to version 3.0./.
