In a statement issued on December 15, the US Department of Defense 's Defense Security Cooperation Agency said the sale was related to maintaining Taiwan's command, control, communications and computing capabilities.
A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said in a statement that the recent arms sales “seriously undermine China’s sovereignty and security interests, seriously endangering peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.”
The companies that will be sanctioned are BAE Systems Land and Armaments, Alliant Techsystems Operations, AeroVironment, Viasat and Data Link Solutions.
China will freeze the assets of these companies and ban any people or organizations in China from participating in them, the spokesman said.
