Taiwan’s National Immigration Agency (NIA) has announced that it will stop using paper immigration cards from October 1st, and instead, international visitors must declare their entry status online. Currently, Vietnamese visitors to Taiwan can still declare their entry status in both paper and online forms.

NIA Chief of Staff Lin Ze-chiem said that visitors can access the Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC) website and fill in their information in English or Traditional Chinese. The website has instructions on how to fill out the form in Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Thai and Indonesian. Once they have completed the declaration and discovered that the information entered was incorrect, visitors can go to the re-declaration section to edit it right on the website.

Once the form is completed and submitted, visitors will receive a confirmation email. Immigration officers may request the confirmation email for further inspection if necessary.

Travellers are advised to complete the TWAC declaration within three days of arrival, but can still declare at the airport via free wifi. For groups or families, one person can declare on behalf of up to 16 people.

In case there is no internet connection device, passengers can ask NIA staff at the airport or seaport to help them make an online declaration upon arrival in Taiwan.

According to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam, the website for filling out the online entry registration form has been upgraded and optimized since May 5. Passengers only need to take a photo and upload it to the basic information page of their passport, and the passport-related information will automatically appear on the declaration page. Those who have not uploaded a passport photo can also enter their personal information themselves.

Mr. Phan Tan Phat, founder of the travel company Dat Xe in Taiwan, said that Vietnamese tourists should not bring fruits, fresh foods such as vegetables, seafood when entering the country. Meat, whether raw or cooked, or in packages of porridge, instant noodles, or meat-containing bone broth, should also not be brought. If tourists proactively declare, airport staff will only confiscate it. If they do not declare and are discovered, tourists will get into trouble such as facing penalties, depending on the severity of the violation. "However, cooked seafood is still allowed to be brought in," said Mr. Phat.

From the airport, if you have little luggage, you can take the train (purple line) straight to the center of Taipei or take the bus that picks you up right at the front of the airport. The bus has a schedule, you just need to look at the signs at the airport to calculate the time to get on the bus. If you have bulky luggage or are traveling with many people, you should take a taxi for convenience.
